By me, let kid play, out of "special rules" give him a recruit id and put him a name we can recognize... im sure everyone w something more on head than hair will not give him trouble, even help if can. Let him know life is hars, so he need be harder thats my 2 cents, bring kid in, well help if can (well, i will)
I vote let him play with a special identification, for example... give him Friendly IFF+Recruit ID, we will cannot mistake him hahahaha. But also, tell him to finish SP campaign would be great for to know the basics.
You know, if you need a hand... mine Helium with Johnywalker! hahahahaha.
so i only got one no on this based on the goods that can be traded and game violence. i dont really agree with the guys points considering that he cant read so he wont know what he is trading, (the entire reason for this post) and the violence is minimum. i would put it on a lvl of smash bros . and yes juan that was my little man. im going to introduce him to the story line and for the first bit i will be on with him till he gets the hang of things on a basic lvl
Please remember that this is a roleplay server. We have kicked off people who were much older than that just because they knew too little English. Keep your kid on SP instead.
Though considering you will probably not do that - simply keep them under Rank 30.
EDIT: I know this is going to sound a bit harsh, but we are not your babysitters here. We are an RP community based around Freelancer. If you put your kid into this environment, be ready for the consequences because nobody is going to adapt to you and your special needs.

Let him have his fun with the game. As long as he meets some of experienced (or just not random lolwuts) players and they'll know who's he, they shouldn't create too much drama. I can't speak for lolwuts tho. They act in unpredictable way
So yeah, give the kid some fun. Maybe ask him to finish single player campaign first to get some insight in freelancer's mechanics. (and cool storyline)
Yeah, it was just an opinion. Not a statement of any sort.
