Who wants it that way? Is it a place where we fly when not wanting to meet a live soul? Is there any place where you can set a trap with your badass Maquis char (for example) and be sure some trader would pass by?

Gallia was made in times when we had around 200 players in evenings and in weekend you sometimes had problem to get slot on the server. It was probably too big even for that as creators got carried away, but it became a real problem much later with gradual shrinkage of the playerbase.
To the OP - I don´t think that further cuts will help much. Gallia had population issues even in times when the playerbase was twice as big as today. These days, size of playerbase is simply not enough to keep activity in all areas in game. Outside of events/drama, average evening spike player count is 60-80 players which should populate 8 areas (five houses, Omicrons, Omegas, Taus). That´s less than ten players per area. Now count in that Liberty will be always in huge advantage due to having starting system and being in the center, and you will end with like half of that number of other areas.
Maybe you can make Gallia more active in theory, but in my opinion it will be inevitably at the expense of activity in some other area because playerbase won´t magically get bigger and players can´t be on two places at the same time.
Also, what Thyrzul said - small systems make life of pirates/unlawfuls way more difficult.
The amount and size of the Gallic systems feels pretty solid to me, the only thing I could really suggest is trimming down the amount of stations though I imagine the devs are probably more aware of that than we are. Beyond that we just need people to be up there.
I don't mind free flying through a great big empty system to be honest, although i would like to hear more of that gorgeous music while I'm doing so. Battleships at the gates make sense in RP, although perhaps moving some of the more 'non-essential' ones around might help. Furthermore, i think Gallia was designed to be different. If you make it more like every other sirius house out there it loses its 'alien' feel to it. A big house isolated for centuries is going to be different, system size is an example of it.
With all that said, i would like to see more activity there. Its a bit of a sad place sometimes, so if the systems are reduced, but trade picks up (plus we hear some more music more often) i think thats a fair trade off. Plus an event or two wouldn't go unnoticed i'm sure.
It would certainly get the GRN back online, Bretonia misses them.

For the record I can't remember when was the last time I've seen you up there either, for someone who wants to trim it down now.
If Gallia needs further redesign even after all it had to go through in the past, I'd leave that up to only the devs and closely related factions to decide upon, plan and execute. It's not like I'm trying to tell anyone how the Omicrons should look like, am I?
