No, it wouldn't. It would make sense to use them inRP only if you can't live with the idea of losing them. Right now they are a high value commodity that should give people reason to pirate them. All I see here is a thread begging for immunity of losing RP cargo. Equipment is something else, you need it to play Discovery, but cargo is what it is: Cargo. I really can see people opening up more of those threads each time they found a commodity that is hard to deinstall, like cardamine in someone's body, crew or the artifact someone has hidden somewhere on the ship, or the artifact that is part of someone's body or whatever.
Except that it is easy to get back? All I have to do is fly to Kepler and ask?
Of course it make total sense for a device that is attached to my ship in the same way my cloak or my shield is, to be in my cargo hold ready for someone to take when they blow me up /s

Then don't roam around with the commodity if you can't handle losing it. Imagine what kind of stuff the Eidolon Wraith with the entire Zeta Section would take as commodities.
I mean I literally just said it's easy for me to get another cell so I'm fine flying around with it. The point is not that it's a hassle to get back once you lose it, it's that it doesn't make sense that you can lose it in the first place. Unless you want there to be a chance you can lose your mounted guns and equipment every time you die.
But the guns and stuff are a gameplay-part of the game, the IRG Power Cell is nothing than an RP goodie and it would really suck if people would start like that and roam around with commodities they can't pirate. It's literally the same with Scientific Data, as people are like "Oh, I scanned your ship and see your database contains 500 teraquads of data and your cargo bay is stuffed with data pads!" - Seriously, there will always be a commodity that should be part of the ship but isn't. They are however just commodities, and if you don't want to get pirated for it, don't have it in the cargo hold.
Sorry, Sombra but that is just a stupid statement. The IRG Powercell is a non generic commodity, that is mounted to your vessel inRP. Carrying, storing and using it, aswell as obtaining it requires RP this also should include obtaining it via pirating which shouldn't allow a "powercell or die" RP.
It should, like any other commodity is doing so. Yes, you maybe can't just drop it in a minute, but nothing prevents you from asking for time to remove the cell in ten minutes using deinstallation mechanisms, like it is with any other commodity as well. As I said, this thread is just about making an expensive commodity immune to piracy.
The normal equipment is protected by a sole gameplay limitation. Don't try to protect your commodities by trying to make it benefit from a gameplay limitation.

Well. Dock, unmount, hand out the cell, then. I am not trying to protect the commodity. I am the first one willing to do such in case the pirate does RP to obtain it.
I seriously don't see a reason to set the gameplay mechanic against RP.
You can continue this whole discussion also to the general gameplay issue that allows whales carrying 5000 passengers for example which is certainly the next level of gameplay mechanic against RP.
