It had been a busy few weeks since the last time they had met Fairchild. At that point, there had been only one formality left to handle before work on Vergil could proceed in earnest, the location of the Alien Organism's needed to make it work. A short trip out into the Sigma's and back had yielded a small amount of the Organisms to begin working with, and more importantly, the location they could be found, for future collection.
Ever since then, construction crews and the sound of manufacturing equipment could be heard near constantly on Glendalough. Much of the modular station had been designed with further expansion in mind, and now that foresight was paying off. A large wing of one of the lower levels had been reassembled to afford more space, with interior walls being deconstructed and carefully planned out additions and segments being installed.
The area that would become the lab was carefully sectioned into several areas, so as to allow testing and development without risking breaches in safety. Once the walls had been rearranged to meet the desired specifications, the equipment was purchased, transported and installed before being tested to ensure that everything was working at optimal condition.
All told, it took nearly three weeks of non-stop effort to set up the lab, even with the modular design of the station to bring down construction speeds and costs. As Nick glanced over the almost complete addition to his installation, he couldn't help but smile at the thought of what would follow next. Already they had begun vetting potential employees who would be able to contribute to the Vergil project, and one of his own Knights had expressed a desire to assist in the labs.
One of the engineers nearby nodded at his companion, who flipped a switch, and with a thrum the nano-replicator that had just been installed came to life, and after a moment of manipulation, printed out a single nano-fiber shell, ready to be given purpose by one of the scientists in the following days. Things were coming together neatly and it was finally time to release a public statement on what Vergil was, and what it could do, before releasing it on the open market. It was also time to let Fairchild know that the lab was up and running if she wished to work on Vergil once more.
The Lab
Several conjoining rooms make up the labs physical layout. Testing, research and production are all carried out in these areas, and as such, the facility houses several nano-replicators and cryo-storages. A small staff of scientists and cybernetic engineers have been assembled to staff the facility, and production of Vergil nodes has begun. Alien Organisms, known as the Vergil bacteria, are gathered and delivered to the facility by several long range ships, where they are stored in cryo-chambers until ready to be utilized in the manufacturing process.
The office of the head administrator of the lab currently stands empty, as a suitable applicant is being sought after. From here reports about activity in the rest of the lab can be viewed, and directives and requests issued.
The production area houses the the handful of nano-replicators and tools required to construct a Vergil node. While the majority of the work is automated and carried out by mechanized units, there are a handful of staff that supervise and oversee efforts taken here.
One of the nano-replicators, this model is capable of creating several hundred of the Vergil nodes hourly, provided that their is sufficient materials to do so. After the Vergil node shell is created, a Vergil bacteria is inserted, sealed into the shell, and then programmed for its desired task before being linked to a Vergil network.
