beams are okay unless procedural asteroid generation on server side, its a question of performance (remember that server should generate asteroids atleast around you and your target to avoid unpleasant missing of raycast results, currently it only generates around you locally and uses clientside hit detection like FL do).
short range beams should be okay to implement
caps will have more weak points, but not sure how to defeat BS shields with just snub guns, would require some serious DPS
Meanwhile I added dynamic ship stats depending on what your ship has fitted. Currently there are two types of slots: turret and defense. Turrets are basically weapon mounts. Defense slot equipment acts like all in one, it can alter your resists, shield/armor capacity and also can be activated to give you shiled/armor boost by using capacitor.
Your lovely Liberty Carrier is included for the next build, which will be released as I said before after FIFA championship xD
