Ok peeps, I got a bit of a problem. My Halo 3 disc is scratched beyond recognition or so says my 360. I've got to find a way to for it to work even if just for a minute so I can install Halo on the HDD.
So, question! Is there a way, any way at all, that I can make this sucker readable? And if not, is there a way for me to install it without the disc? ( most unlikely, but meh.)
Toothpaste. Seriously. Spread a bit of it around the whole thing and rub lightly with one finger in little circles as you go around the disc. Then wash it off and pray it works.
Toothpaste has a very mild abrasive in it that can clean up some of the scratches.

Aye +1 for the Toothpaste , and there are little devices Ultra Sonic Cleaner, you can find one for around 10 -20 Euronen, it work even better then Toothpaste. If it doesn't work, pm me I will help you finding the source disc-
Good Luck

My friend helped me out with this problem when I had it with another game:
He got a towel- wet it, then dried it. Then he rubbed it only around the central rings of the CD. And that worked. But hey *shrugs*, id probably try toothpaste :)
Toothpaste didn't cut it. The Household Hacker solution didn't cut it. The towel, same thing. I'm afraid the thing is way too damaged to work. It has a deeply scratched ring all around the DVD, not counting the smaller scratches.
The deeply scratched ring may mean that your disc drive itself is toast. (That was a common problem with certain drives.) You should be able to contact Microshaft and send in the disc and they'll send you a replacement once you send in the bad one. And I'd consider getting the disc drive replaced - scratching discs is NOT an uncommon problem with them.

I took a look at my older and most played games and none of them had a scratch whatsoever. I think the problem really is with the Halo 3 disk. It was already scratched, if slightly, when I bought it. I just didn't want to spend an entire fricking month if not more waiting for a new shipment so I could get a replacement. (360 games are extremely hard to find here in Portugal. Everyone is massively biased towards the PS3)
