For some reason, when I try the -dx solution, it makes the edges of the screen bleed over, blocking my view of the hud or facility buttons, on planets.
I can do steps 1 and 2. But, for some reason, I simply cannot find the .ini files which it refers to in steps 3 and 4. When I go into FONTS, it simply shows three fonts, not font.ini or rich_fonts.ini.
Can anyone provide any help? It's really annoying, to look at it as a square on a black background.
In order to use the -dx command that Cannon set you must have a clean installation of Freelancer, without any previous widescreen mods, if you can fix it neither like this, you could try to change your resolution from PrefOptions, from My Games/Freelancer/PrefOptions

It...semi-fixes itself. More is visible, but I still cant see all of my armor bar, my weapons list, or the scanner window. I also cant select any of the dock/go to/formation buttons, at the top

If you've already installed a manual widescreen mod you'll need to remove this before trying the following. Specifically the cameras.ini, fonts.ini and richfonts.ini should be restored to their original settings.
- If you are docked when you first login, you can only see a single icon at the top of the screen. This is normal. Once you launch to space and dock again all of the icons will be displayed. At some point once I've finished about 30 other things I'll try to fix this.
- The font sizes are not optimal when compared to some manual mods.
On Windows XP
Right click on the shortcut that you use to start Freelancer, select 'Properties':
Edit the 'Target' field in the Properties window and add "'dx" to the end of the line. This will set your Freelancer to your current desktop resolution. The example below shows this
As the above image shows, use the Target field (Shown by the arrow) to add " -dx" to get the game to automatically go to your Desktop resolution, so it will be the same size as what you use for the desktop. Remember to have a space between the end of the shortcut target and the start of the widescreen parameters, like so:
Alternately you can manually specify the resolution by adding "-dHxW" rather than -dx where H is the height and W is the width. For example for a 1400 by 900 monitor use -d1400x900.
On Windows Vista/7
Right click on the shortcut that you normally use to start Freelancer then click Properties (Shown by the arrow) like so;
You will get a form showing this;
As the above image shows, use the Target field (Shown by the arrow) to add " -dx" to get the game to automatically go to your Desktop resolution, so it will be the same size as what you use for the desktop. You can also add it in manually like in the picture such as " -d1920x1200", replacing the numbers with your desired resolution. Remember to have a space between the end of the shortcut target and the start of the widescreen parameters, like so:
It's a very old topic here, but it's just like a perfect theme for me.
Im having kinda same issue, i set the screen to 1366x768
and in game the hud is out of my screen.
-dx or -d1366x768 doesn't change anything at all.
Would be very glad if anyone has something in mind and could share.
run it and itll say that its found an account in memory, click yes to save and name it, thats your current game account
then click on the ! in the box on the right and itll change the resolution to your desktop settings
then bottom right of launch pad, click "launch client"
and it should load
hopefully that should fix it
youll need to change the directory so it can see where disco is
as you can see like in the pic, youll need to locate it
click start then in search type %appdata% then click on the local folder, and in there in the discover 4.87 folder like in the example window it neeed to look same (but obviously you wouldnt have mat, its your comps login)
