So we all know indies (unofficial faction members) cause problems on this server, e.g. Making conflicted faction RP / making faction negotiations and agreements weak if indies dont go along with it / that whole mess IMG had where its indies were attacking people, and it said they couldnt, and arguing ect.
But Indies also bring good things to the server, and this is where you come in, everyone please tell me the good things that indies do/bring/reasons for having them. (note please dont say one that has already been said)
I'll start off:
1: Official factions often make you wait ages before you can fly a cap ship you want, if you are an indie you can have fun with it straight away.
2: You may not agree with the RP of the official faction, and so want to start a faction more in keeping with what you think that ID SHOULD be doing (possible one)
P.S. please no anti indie/anti official faction rants (lookin at you Ryoken :P)
REMINDER: Not talking about generic IDs here
Edit, after getting responses:
Wow, thankyou all for the lots of responses, (the ones not saying "Lock please" anyway!)
The reason I made this thread was because I was trying to figure out a way to get rid of the bad things about indies, whilst keeping the good things, but I realised that to do that I needed to know what the community thinks the good things about indies ARE.
So the good points that have come up seem to be:
1: Get big ships when you want.
2: Different RP if you disagree with official faction RP
3: Indies reduced responsibility encourages more spontaneous advances in RP, and creates less "stale" factions that stick around after their ideas have run out.
4: Try the faction out before you join
5: Don't always have someone bossing you about - its a game -
6: Easier, no skype chat, no responsibility to come on a certain amount, no specific setup you have to get.
7: No official tag so that lawfuls/traders can find/avoid you
Does that sound about right?
P.S. I am not "Anti Indie" I posses 18 ships and several shared ships, and I have only 1 char in an official faction
P.P.S. THIS is not the "What are the bad things about indies?" thread.
P.P.P.S. I am not talking about generic IDs, this is about people using faction IDs but not being in the OFFICIAL faction.
P.P.P.P.S. If I had the power I would ban the term and all variations of "Lolwut" from my threads, I hate that term, please dont use it, thnx.

indies are the driving force for creative and innovative RP. - much more than factions who become set in their ways - and henceforth... stagnate.
factions with rigid structures are not flexible enough ... and members ( can ) become bored much easier than independents. - the outcome of such boredom breaks through as mindless and usually unilateral pvp actions.
an indie whos roleplay ideas run out .... "dies" ... a factions whos roleplay ideas run out tends to stick around long after the date of expiry.
that is why indies are important.
explanation:
an indie with a nice idea simply goes forth and does it. - a factionmember has to mind too many aspects to be impulsive. - after all... an indie that messes up ruins his own reputation ( or rather the reputation of his char [ if the community did not metagame ] ) - a factionmember who messes up risks his faction to be flagged "bad" [ again - only in case the community does not metagame ]
responsibility can be harmful for beneficial and spontanous behaviour. - indies ( can ) represent the best of RP - but also the worst... factions usually represent the average... they often start quite innovative... but after around a few months - they become mediocre in terms of creativity.
I lol'd about the wording of the topic. But I agree with Pilgrim, this has the potential to turn into a firepit very fast.
As for good points on the indies: we officials had no one to recruit if there weren't indies around and trying to recruit someone for your corporation can actually create some nice RP too:P

I dunno - ive had both good and bad experiences - i have to agree, that it does add a nice bit of life into the server, and one thing no one has said, people love the freedom to add something to a setting they enjoy, which an indie faction provides - alot of players would leave without this creative freedom.
