Note: This guide is outdated. For the 4.86 version of this guide check this thread.
» First of all, this guide only includes the exact location of all codename wrecks as well as a few other wrecks including 'special items'. However, this guide will not cover certain methods used by certain wreck 'campers', simply because I, personally, don't find it good sport to use those methods to loot codes. » Then, some people might say this thread will ruin the business for weapon dealers, but tell you what? Still after knowing the exact location of each and every code wreck, many won't have the time or patience to loot the codes they want, and would still prefer to buy it from dealers. So, look at the bright side - You might even get more deliverers. » Even though this guide covers the location of all wrecks and codenames, no 'loot chain' is included. So, if you want to use this guide to supply your armory or dealer, spend a few minutes and arrange a few routes to cover all the wrecks on just a few chars yourself.
Frequently Asked Questions:
[color=#FFFFFF]Q: What are wrecks and how should I find them? A: Wrecks are objects implemented in starsystems in form of abandoned or heavily damaged/disabled ships. Just like any other object, they'll appear on your navmap soon as you get into 10k range, and are shown as a red X on the map.
Q: How should I loot them? A: Fire one shot at the wreck and objects will drop for you to beam in.
Q: Do all wrecks contain codenames or valuable objects? A: No, only some do and that's the main purpose of this guide to show which. Other wrecks mostly contain regens, regular cargo and low class faction guns.
Q: I shoot a wreck but nothing drops, what am I doing wrong? A: You? Nothing. It just means someone got to the wreck before you did. Or, check the last question.
Q: So, how should I know if someone has already looted the wreck? A: HP bar of each wreck regenerates over time. Some slower, some faster. The only way to know if a wreck is looted is if you see it's already low on HP, but if you get there too late when the HP is full again after someone had already looted it, you can't tell.
Q: Do I have to worry about gas clouds or radiation destroying the codename before I beam it? A: No. Codenames have higher HP than the other items wrecks drop, so although in systems like Sigma-13 rest of the loot will be gone with one explosion, the codename will only take a small amount of damage which you can easily repair later.
Q: Can I just sell the codename to base after I've looted it to make a quick cash? A: Codenames sell for 100k - 300k on base, which is nothing compared to the couple of millions you can get from selling it to another player. However, if you sell it to a dealer you'll get much less than when you sell it directly to a buyer.
Q: If someone has already looted a wreck, how long should I wait to loot it again? A: All wrecks are refreshed after each server restart. When server's running swiftly and without errors, it's usually once a day, but if any problem occurs which requires a server restart to fix, or if server crashes due to an error, you can loot the wreck straight away.
Q: Can I loot a wreck twice with same char? A: No. You can loot each wreck only once per char, so if you want to loot a wreck again (after a server restart), you'll have to do it on another char.
