I have made a shader for freelancer ! - agua70 - 08-29-2020

Hello everyone,

We all enjoy freelancer, since many years, and I thought we could enjoy it more with a bit of post processing. So here is a shader, made with reshade 4.7.0 (and the shader he can provide). If you want to install it, please read the text below, as I will guide you trough the installation, from the download, to the finalisation of the installation.

  • Pimping Freelancer with Nvidia

Open the configuration panel of Nvidia, and then select discovery freelancer's .exe. Then, upgrade everything you can, everything is explained in the panel. This will give a graphical upgrade for free. Wink

  • acquiring reshades

Since Freelancer is on directX8 (tank you Laz (sun) ), you have to upgrade it to directX9 (reshades does not apply to game under directX9). To do so, download the d3d8.dll file with this link (click on the file to download it):

  • installing reshades on freelancer
First, drag the file "d3d8.dll" into the EXE file of discovery freelancer, this will allow reshades to apply the installation.

Then, execute reshade's setup. It will ask you to choose in which game you want to install reshade.

- Select discovery's freelancer .exe (NOT the launcher .exe, the game itslef's .exe).
------- You'll have to browse your file to select it, this trough the selection panel of Reshade.

- Choose what shaders package you want/need.
------- You can either take them all, if you want to play with them at your will, or select only the necessary pack:

standard effects (mandatory)
SweetFX
color effect (by prod80)
qUINT
legacy standard effect


(despite the software saying so, you are forced to take all the effect of one package, but it doesn't matter much, since they will be not switch on).

reshade is set up!

It has an in-build tutorial, so you will not be lost.

  • setting up the shader's effects
Reshade apply nothing when it is installed, you have to select the effect one by one, play with the configuration, crash a few times because you do not know the limit... sigh...

BUT, Since I've made that work, you'll only have to download my preset! Drag it then in your Freelancer discovery's EXE folder, launch the game as usual, and then select the preset trought Reshade menu (look at the top bar of the "home" section, you can select the preset there).

remember, everything can be customized, for example, you can reduce the sharpiness of the game's graphic, or reduce the bloom
