Any other feature of discord bot will remain not changed and out of scope of this thread discussion. Other features will continue to work regardless of the fate of player tracking feature. So even if highlights, like hostile players, exists, persons still need to log - which increases server activity. RE: [Poll] Discord Player Tracking - jammi - 02-07-2026 As I said in the previous thread, player tracking discord bots have done incredible amounts of damage to the community. Ideally they wouldn't exist at all. RE: [Poll] Discord Player Tracking - Jazzi - 02-07-2026 ![]() Jokes aside imo , whilst technically impressive, tools like this encourages a passive-reactive approach to gameplay that discourages logging on a players own terms, removes the need for proactive discovery of interaction opportunities, and optimises the wonder and uncertainty out of the game. More nebulously, it removes that liminal space where rp thrives by presenting an implicit tangible goal and a means to determine if it's effective to log based on meeting it. I'd like it if we turned the Temu-Palantir tools off. RE: [Poll] Discord Player Tracking - Lea Kaufman - 02-07-2026 Honestly, it is a great tool. It is similar as the player list of the forum, but more performant. If some disagree that people most log to discover things on their own, fair enough, but what if you have no time to ping for emergencies? And better, remove the player list on forum as well at this point if the one on discord gets deleted or cease to function. That's my two cents. RE: [Poll] Discord Player Tracking - JadeTornado - 02-07-2026 SInce "Players Online" exists on forums and you can log any char and check player list in-game, the bots adds comfort in doing that and nothing else. If this bot will be taken down, someone will make another. RE: [Poll] Discord Player Tracking - Kauket - 02-07-2026 I like the bots for convenience. If people can log in and see who's where, what's the harm in keeping it. You can already look anyway. It changes nothing but to add some inconvenience for activity alert. RE: [Poll] Discord Player Tracking - Loophole - 02-07-2026 This wasn't explicitly mentioned, but I'd hazard a guess that this is on a lot of people's minds: the bot must die because people use it to abuse players. In my opinion, if the bot should die due to abuse then the web player list also needs to die, as the abusers will leverage the web player list by themselves. It's not the hardest thing in the world and dark isn't the only SWE in town. On an even more cynical perspective, all of this would only remove some tools that abusers use; in fact, the more dedicated ones could adapt using Freelancer.exe. It'd be a lot less convenient, no doubt, but I wouldn't underestimate such dedication. Sure, kill it. Just make sure to shoot the web player list for good measure. It might help, but I wouldn't expect a miracle. |
