Sale of ships do you consider them... - Fletcher - 09-02-2009

This post is the thoughts of the following thread:
Admin Intervention in Cases of Fraud

This is not a thread to argue the admins decisions, this is a thread to discuss if you think ship sales are in, or out of roleplay context.

Simple as.

A penny/cent for your thoughts ladies and gentlemen?

I think it's an oddity that should be discontinued. I know myself - I just couldn't fly a ship I knew wasn't completely mine... one that i didn't set up myself and that bears notches on the guns that I never scored.

And regarding the RP/OORP context

I can't think of anything less "RP" than the sales of military hardware to those who shouldn't have it. Ok, I'd understand a military surplus sale. But for pity's sake space warships are NEVER obsolete! Especially the heaviest ones. If sell, then... let me think of an example...

Suppose the Rogues had a busy and fruitful month and would like to acquire some hardware. By chance, the Mollys have just built a new destroyer which their fighting force can do without (Because they have plenty already or because the sale would be per-saldo more beneficial than just a dessie) So LR and MR get to the table, discuss the deal's conditions and after some testing the Rogues haul the ship over to Cassini for minor refits and paint the logo on the hull. Ready-ship sales should not be something for single people to do.

I just like the idea of insurance. For what, 1 or 2 intentions of RP scandaling, you run the risk of someone losing hundreds of millions of credits?

If I lost a billion credits on betting on a Cap 8 armoured Battleship.. I might just drop the game for a while. Do we want that?

In RP with OORP intentions.

Most of the time people buy a ship with their trader or something else. But ends up being for a new char and such. The whole 'sirus stock exchange' should be in RP, once the ship or anything else, is sold it's most likely going to be OORP from then on.

Personally, I don't see why a place for OOC-convince should be guarded so strictly by RP rules. I voted RP with OOC intentions.

Other. It depends on how its done.

If, say, its "H3re r st4tz, lul! 200 mil" then its complete rubbish. If it is done well and at least in a mildly convincing manner, then its not.

It doesn't fit into a nice category. I think that's where all the arguments and confusion about things come from.

A lot of them are sold in the RP section, despite many of them not being in RP. And then there are others that are done in an obviously non-RP way. So it's hard to say one way or another, both in classifying and in how rules should work.

I'd prefer all that stuff was generally done in a non-RP way for most things. Pretty much anything other than Freelancers, really.

Sometimes OORP is more efficient, I think.

*Big long post explaining its history, battle, crew, stats*

If anyone else is like me, I skim read the meat of the message so I can bit.

Or..

Selling a Battleship. Don't want it because I don't use it. Starting at 500 mil.

A lot more to the point, convenient. Meh. Maybe I'm just too lazy.

My 2 cents :

What if the ship selling thread were like :

Quote:*An advertisement came on the Neural Net*

Konnichi wa people of Kusari !
The Kusari Naval Forces are looking for you to defend the Emperor.
Come in the Navy and wear the flag of Kusari through the Sirius systems !
Take place in the last ships developed by the Kishiro Technologies such as this Kusary Bomber craft that is abl to blow up any bretonians evils and turn them into star dust for the honor of our empire.

*While this oral message came with impressive images, a note defiled at the bottom*
Spatial vessels are not delivered for free, a consequent amount of credits is required to own those vessels.
Please call the Kusari Naval Forces Recruitment for more informations.

Then deals should be made in PM.
