LOLWUT Defined - Baltar - 01-13-2010 Ok everybody ... in an attempt to improve role play a bit I thought it would be a good idea to define LOLWUT ... or in plain speak ... bad role play (or at least things that annoy us to death.) One definition that I think is quite accurate for LOLWUT is, "A player who never thinks about the play of the other person. They always have to win and lash out if they lose, for example, bringing a cap ship back to kill a pirate." (Thank you for this definition, Cannon.) We've all come to despise certain encounters with folks. There's plenty of discussions about how pirates encountered in-game are ruining the life of traders and miners. I've brought up a few regarding lawfuls ganking up on unlawfuls. This has (and is) progressing into lots and lots of negativity on both sides. So ... I'd like to consolidate a list of examples of LOLWUT behavior for everyone to avoid. This has absolutely nothing to do with rules and regulations. This is not an attempt to force people into any formula for interacting with one another in role play. What this thread is designed to do is build some etiquette to role play. By that I mean ... try to reduce or even eliminate the LOLWUT effect we encounter. This effort is participatory ... I plan to edit this post from time to time by adding or deleting elements we as a community feel is LOLWUT behavior. So ... lets get started. I'll provide some categories and we'll list some examples of attributes we commonly find in them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The behavior of a LOLWUT Pirate: + Excessive demands on credits -- anything more than 30% of the take on a single run + Excessive demands on cargo -- anything more than 30% of the cargo on a single run + Multiple demands from the same pirate + Destroying a freighter -- specifically someone who's fairly new to Discovery The behavior of a LOLWUT Bounty: + Excessive bounties -- demanding more than twice what a pirate would ask for or that a trader would be willing to pay + Multiple hit bounties -- paying to kill a target multiple times under the same contract + Generic bounties -- those that have no specified target -- "red is dead" principle -- I call the "loop hole" bounty + Bounties on someone you've never encountered -- should be self explanatory + Bounties on someone who's never done anything to you -- should also be self explanatory The behavior of a LOLWUT Smuggler: + Diving dockers -- dive to the mooring fixture or docking ring with multiple lawful (police/military) vessels nearby to see them do it + Silent runners -- ignore all communications specifically to them The behavior of a LOLWUT Trader: + Silent runners -- like their smuggling bretherin + Dock anywhere -- even on the pirate's base that's pirating them + Kill-me-its-cheaper response -- old one, but still used today + Lying about his net worth -- excessive use of the /givecash command to claim he's poor when encountering pirates The behavior of LOLWUTs in Capital Ships: + Overkill -- ganking a lone fighter The behavior of a LOLWUT _____: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lets fill in the blanks ... what other traits do you see in the LOLWUT society of Discovery? Keep in mind ... no names please. I just want examples of what we as a community consider violates etiquette. This is about trying to improve how we interact with one another. Don't need the bully mentality to completely dominate role play. If admin/moderators approve ... I'd like this to be a pinned thread. LOLWUT Defined - Akura - 01-13-2010 It's spelt 'Lolwut' by the majority of the community. And you need a Capital Ship section ^_^ LOLWUT Defined - Baltar - 01-13-2010 Good point ... I'll make the spelling corrections now. What would you consider LULWUT with regards to capital ships? LOLWUT Defined - Akura - 01-13-2010 Lolwut Capital Ships not realising you're supposed to RP, chasing a lone Bloodhound... you know? Most of Liberty's Capships. LOLWUT Defined - pchwang - 01-13-2010 I think you are lolwut, Baltar. I also think it's mean and cruel to classify people based on your perception of the quality of their RP. Thank you for making Discovery a better place. LOLWUT Defined - Baltar - 01-13-2010 ' Wrote:I think you are lolwut, Baltar. Hmm ... might be a good post to hide here ... eh? LOLWUT Defined - Cannon - 01-13-2010 I agree with the excessive demands bit, I disagree with the definition. I personally think piracy of about 1/3 the value of the cargo is reasonable and fair. If this is 30 mil from a cargo value of 90 mil then fine. If it's 1 mil from a cargo value of 3 mil then fine too. 10 mil from a transport carrying 60 mil of goods and without any protection...too bad. Destroying a freighter, again it depends on the situation. If they are obviously a new player then destroying it is mean; if on the other hand they are clearly an experienced player, the phrase 'don't bring a knife to a gunfight' comes to mind. I think I agree with everything else but I think a definition that is missing is something like: "A player who never thinks about the play of the other person. They always have to win and lash out if they lose, for example, bringing a cap ship back to kill a pirate." LOLWUT Defined - Sprolf - 01-13-2010 Thank you, Diablo, for being a general arse where no behaviour of that sort is needed. Also, I'd agree with most of the other things said here. Especially what Cannon said, I was going to add that. LOLWUT Defined - n00bl3t - 01-13-2010 Can I guess that you got pirated and bountied recently? (Since the other "lolwut" actions are rather measly and not as well defined.) Edit: I agree with Demon cat-man, except for the part where he calls Baltar a "lolwut". LOLWUT Defined - Cannon - 01-13-2010 Actually, I wanted to add a bit more about the demand thing... I have noted that many traders say they have no money when they are pirated. Several violation reports went like this: 1. Pirate demands a fair number of credits. 2. Trader says I have no credits. 3. Pirate demands cargo. 4. Trader refuses (and sometimes tries to destroy cargo). 5. Pirate kills trader and takes cargo. 6. Trader files violation report due to an excessive demand. I check the accounts and find the trader has millions - transferred to other characters after each trade run. In the above situation, I believe the trader is in the wrong and is being a lolwut. |
