JUNKER FREEPORT PROPOSAL - Gamazson - 09-24-2007

A bolt of lightning stuck my head today as I passed Freeport 4. If a faction like IMG can maintain a Freeport similar to the Zoners why not the Junkers? An Freeport open to all pirates to trade and sell their illegal wares. I know all junker bases are more or less exactly that but I was having a notion of something grander. A base equivalent to the Tortuga of Caribbean pirate lore.

Such a base will be very difficult to set up. It will have allot of buy/sell commodities that will need to balanced. Very balanced. As will the equipment it sells. That will take allot of work. I would personally be willing to go and do the markets research. I am even willing to split for the finances required (But would gladly accept help).

But before I get into any of that I want to know what kind of community interest there would be in such a base. Remember I am affter a hub of a place. Somewhere where many unlawfuls of many creeds feel compelled to visit.

That also brings up another big problem. Location. This place has to be somewhere semi-central. It has be somewhere that will attract the greatest variety of pirates possible. Which rules out the first system that came to my mind, Humbolt. Being surrounded by guard systems it is not an ideal choice.

In truth I was thinking of two vanilla systems (Galileo* & Hudson). Which again means there must be some strong research and community support. I am mighty confidant that Dab can mod a vanilla system, but as I pointed out Igiss will need strong convincing. Oh and Dab will be expensive I am sure. (But worth it)

So I will leave now for the PVP server where I will be conducting commodity research. Please leave your opinions and/or vote. Also please provide feed back on an ideal location. If there is a decent empty system to full this purpose I would love to know about it. I will be taking another look at Iverness while I am on the PVP as well.

I like this idea. It does seam fit that the Junkers would want a place like this, because it would give them profit. If you can fit a good balance for this, I say go for it.

Yes I support this concept, and actually giving it it's own system is not a bad idea. Basically neutral ground for pirates and the lot.

Who the hell voted No!?

Hobby, that's downright brilliant! I love it.

Hmm an armistice sort of station? Possible but not quite what I had in mind. The idea is to have this base somewhere that attracts the most pirate factions as possible. Something tells me that the Unioners or rouges wont be wanting to go Eta anytime soon. I envisioned this as a drop off point for cardi, artifacts, gold and the like. If it were in Eta it would be more of a buying spot. Worse yet it would be more expensive then the two major illegal commodities planets of origin.

Omega-47 has also poped up in my head. It is a little remote but has it ever got room for expansion. I have also said in the past that the Junkers do need a presence in the omega's.

Now as for its own system. That truly would be wonderful. But again where would it be? Bigger question, could we get Igiss to go for it? As I understand it the room for new systems is running out. I think there might be more luck to be had in modding an vanilla system. Galileo dosent even have anything on its entire right side. May as well make use of such space.

Why have it be a Freeport, as opposed to a large junker base?

From what I understand, Freeports exist primarily as colonies of Zoners, and secondarily as trade hubs for other people. The central feature of a Freeport isn't the fact that anyone can land there, it's the fact that it's a group of Zoners trying to grow food under biodomes and live in the wilds of space.

The idea of a Sirius "Tortuga" is kind of fun, though... I just don't see it as a Freeport.

Of course, there is still the IMG Freeport in Magellan.

I think this is a good idea. I can imagine that many a barfight would occur here, and many fights in orbot around it.

My guess is that the Junkers wouldn't really control it per se, but would have the most permanent residents. It would have some sort of unwritten code regarding to what level violence aboard could escalate to.

I love this idea! But there are a few things I am unsure of, mainly because I do not actually play. If this is to be a hub for multiple pirate/illegal factions, what type of ships will be flying around it? Will only people that are not red to Junkers be able to land? That last question may seem stupid, but from what I understand even if groups of pirates have an issue with each other, they would not act on it here. That means, even the Junkers that run the place would not hold it against a pilot that he is anti Junker, not until after a few drinks at the bar. NPCs cannot decide to just not attack someone that is red to Junkers. Maybe a seperate group like teh gaurds? Dunno.

Fight outside, but not inside, like the other Freeports.
