My Shameless US Pride Thead - Marburg - 06-24-2010

Its never been easy being a soccer fan in America because the sports biggest enemy in America has always been, well...other Americans.

That's cool though. I've always been a fan of subcultures & underdogs, so soccer was taylor made for a guy like me.

Since going to my first game in '94, yesterday was a day I've been waiting sixteen years for.

It's not because of some of the newfound respect we are starting to enjoy from some other soccer fans around the world...It's the newfound respect from other Americans here 'in-house.'

Yesterday removed all shadows of doubt & changed the world.

Finally, the US have proven we are true competitors in every sense of the word & love us or love to hate us, we are comin' ta gitcha!:P[Image: USsoccer.jpg]

I always wanted the US to go through, to expand the game and perhaps spark interest in it in America; doesn't do you any good to be playing silly games noone else plays. That's what the olympics are for.

America has a good chance simply because of the route they have ahead, getting to the semi-finals has a quite high posibility, you just need to beat Ghana and then either Uruguay or South Korea to get there. At this point though you are forced to play either Argentina, England or Germany (unless Mexico make it by Argentina). I couldn't tell you who'd await in the finals though. The three big boys Brazil, Portugal and Spain will compete for that, along with the 4th best team the Netherlands, and a few unfortunate teams. In a way we're lucky they're going to all knock eachother out.

This will be all. (Language warning) God I love this nation.

I gotta agree with 'ya on that Mars . . .

Even here in Red-Neck land we got little league soccer teams playing . . Folks are starting to take interests in the game . . (And this been going on for a couple of years here, not just because of the current world cup) . .

Awww thank you Jes:$

You kid because you love, yeah?

I understand why you would need to keep up appearances, & you can deny it as much as you need to...but I know the inner truth when you're watching the US on TV & think no one is looking:

Man, 'Burg, I'm behind you 100%. I haven't been around long enough to go to the games in '94 but, man, there's been some kind of change here and I really think it's commercialism. For some reason, commercialism has hopped on the "soccer" band wagon, too, after the Confederation Cup and, man, am I enjoying it.

I'll join you in your shamelessness and say I've never been so proud to be an American. We're goin' all the way, baby!

Mar, you're not the only U.S. soccer fan here. I played the game as a fullback sweeper and I coached kids the game during my military days. Coaching it was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.
Slowly, the game of soccer (football for you Europeans) is gaining favor here in America.

When I hear people criticize the game, I defend it. So many Americans like a game with a lot of scoring and since a soccer game often ends up 1-0 or something, it bores them. I don't think the critics realize just how tough a game it truly is.

Soccer is, according to JihadJoe and I, Soc(k)+er. A game in which you need more socks.
