Hard Drive: 20 GB. Man. What a huge amount of space for one program.

Battlefield 3 - ivr56 - 09-22-2011

I just freed up 75GB :D

Battlefield 3 - BaconSoda - 09-22-2011

Well. I've got about 495GB free, but man that's a lot of space for one program.

Nevertheless, excited! I hope no one has red hats! :nono:

Battlefield 3 - BaconSoda - 09-28-2011

I got to play the early-release beta on my brother's computer for about 2 hours today with Elgatodiablo, and I'll give my impressions:

Battlelog is really buggy. I spent about half an hour of my time trying to join a server with Elgato. It was really a pain in all sorts of butts. The positive of this is that you can insert entire squads into a server if you want. I suppose just like the original BC2 netcode, it should get better with the release, but at the moment it's terrible.

The Squad System is a complete step backwards. Instead of having a squad menu, you pick "Find a Squad." It then places you in a squad. If someone gets kicked from a server or his game crashes, he is equally likely to show up in some random's squad rather than his buddy's squad. That's terrible. Why isn't there a menu? That was so much better.

Those two things aside, the game feels good. The sounds are excellent and the movement feels right. Unlike in BC2, the people are actually hard to see. This means that I died a lot, but that really should come with time. The guns feel like guns and the Russians are actually using Russian guns while the Americans are using American guns. This makes me happy.

So my thoughts right now is that the game is good, but the shell makes it terribly inaccessible.

Some thoughts/feedback I posted on the BF3 battlelog forums
The Positives:

-Select-able Fire - Love this feature. Giving ability to switch semi/burst for long/medium ranges or Full auto for mid/close. Essential in any FPS glad to see it return
-Prone
-Minimap with zoom. Like pre-frostbite Battlefields 1942 up to 2142. Useful when full game gos live and you play with your friends. OR want a more birds eye view without having to open spawn or escape menu.
-Accepting Revive instead of instant.
-Suppression
-Feel of guns
-County specific starting gear. Good to see this return. Not many shooters have it, more need to.
-Equitable Grenades and Knives.
-Laser Sights/Flashlight Secondary Use to blind people (Not many FPS's do this)

Engine Performance:

-Game looks stunning, a big step up from BC2. Animations are top notch.
-Soundwork - Supurb on my Headset.Even better on my 2.1 sound system. Firing of rifles, explosives, APC or infantry. Clear, crisp, alive and commanding. Especially when you hit stage 2 and 3.

Battlelog:

- VOIP supringly clear over Chrome. One on one or group
- Text Chat works
- Easy to navigate, add friends and invite to games or chat
-REAL TIME STATS - BC2's stat tracking wasn't the best. Nor were EA master servers. Good to see this working well. Now as long as it stays during full release and not buckle under pressure.
-Serverbrowser that works
-Detailed Activity (Would like some privacy settings however)

What I don't like:
-Lack of inventory UI like BC2. It can get confusing sometimes. Having it like BC2 or BF1942-2142 would be great.

-Scoreboard - Needs more teambased stats on the scoreboard. So you can compare during a match how well you stack up in Revives, Health, Ammo, spotting, Assists and repair

-Vehicle Health Regen - It's something that needs to be adressed. Vehicles should fully rely only Engineers or Helipad/Repair stations

-Battlelog: - VOIP takes it's toll on Chrome's memory/CPU usage to a noticable effect.
- As a primary means of starting play

Mixed Reactions:
-Health Regen - Like and dislike would be good to see a mix of both old and new. For example, Health regen is there but only goes max say 75%. Medic Box is needed to top up to 100%

-Floaty Feel vs Weighted Feel -One small detail I loved about BC2 was its sluggishness. Felt more weighted and more grounded, felt different. Not this floaty ice skaty feeling found in other shooters. BF3 I'm not sure how to describe it. It feels a bit of both hard to explain.

Caspain Border from Gamescom is also in the build.
But its behind a password for all its servers for internal EA testing:(

AK has Single and Auto.
