Our mod has been stolen - Epholl - 03-07-2008 Ahh yes, I knew something will ruin my mood after i will return home... Well, those guys told they want to play FL on a russian server because of their connections... If the server was running disco, would they be more laggy? the "Alliance" makes it more playable? I say: We fought many speedmodders, CC hackers, hacker attacks... I would like to see how will they fight them... Our mod has been stolen - Dab - 03-07-2008 ' Wrote:Heres what i think they deserve for this:That would solve nothing. All they would do is delete the posts and IP Ban the account that posted. Its obvious they don't care its ours, and your idea wouldn't change that. Also, people in Discovery shouldn't act like that. Thats lowering yourself to their level. The only workable plans have already been stated by Igiss and Onca. Our mod has been stolen - pipsqueak - 03-07-2008 Igliss m8, On new iterations, stop sending the server side files in the zip. If some one need sthem, have them email you for that and provide that to them only if they consent to not modify the mod. (Or any other set of rules). I hope this does not become a trend. PEACE Our mod has been stolen - Skorp - 03-07-2008 Quote:"I think the best thing we, as dedicated Discovery community, can do is keep our eyes open. If we see this piece of s**t mod being promoted, uploaded or described on some site, then..." Bah, I don't think that will happen... What can they else do than telling themselves how great they are, and meddle with themselves in front of the mirror? I mean, come on, not only we know that Discovery is Igiss' work, you can trace its history back through the most important mod forums, MOTY contests etc, and it's also printed in the Media ... (PC Action 3/2008 , Link to that article : http://www.pcaction.de/?article_id=624714 ) I know for myself that it hurts badly when you see your work being stolen, but hey...I predict this russian "server" the lifetime of a shooting star...:) Our mod has been stolen - mwerte - 03-07-2008 We could use their NY like everybody uses ours, fill up the server slots and sit there and chat... When someone tells us to leave we tell them "legally - you do not have bases for the claims." which is what one of the admins told Igiss. Our mod has been stolen - Igiss - 03-08-2008 I'm tired of all those Copyleft talks. Please understand the following: 1) The mod is technically already a Copyleft. Readme tells that code can be used in any other mods if Discovery and its author's name is mentioned in the other mods' credits. 2) The argument is not about mod as a whole, but about its content, e.g. models. Models are not my property, they are owned by people who created them. 3) Those who created them WILL NOT issue copyleft licenses cause no one wishes such works to be used freely by anyone. Model is not even technically under GNU and other similar licenses, cause it has no source code. It's a design, 3d mesh, texture, but not a code. Thanks. Please understand the following:Ummm... in that case, i apologize for the copyleft thread, please disregard it everyone. Our mod has been stolen - Igiss - 03-08-2008 No worries Barbarian, I know that such license might seem like a preferable solution. In addition to what I already said: unfortunately, for those who disregard copyright law as a whole, a license attached to the mod won't be much of a deterrence. Our mod has been stolen - gafwmn - 03-08-2008 Ok...now I have a question.Lets say,for example, that I want to run a server using the 4.83 disco mod,and I want to modify the mod ( adding new items, bases, etc...) as an add-on mod to go with the existing mod,and I leave all the credits and thank-you for your hard work and effort messages in place and add the thank-you for the new additions to the add-on,IS there a problem with this?Because I for one do NOT want to step on anybodys toes,or do anything that is outside the law( written or "modders code" unwritten). |
