RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Widow - 08-12-2013 Pita rolls her eyes and replies with a similar note of sarcasm "It's not like Buffalo has a wide variety of takeaway foods....." She thinks for a moment "I can't really... Nothing fancy anyway. But that's ok....." She falls silent for a moment, shaking the thoughts of her days with the Rogues from her mind. Happy for the change in topic she nods enthusiasticly, "Pizza sounds good." She follows James to the pantry, looking slightly more awake then she was before. She wasn't brave enough to offer help so she watches him with interest. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Manticore - 08-12-2013 He laughed. "I'll admit you have a point there. Good that you know how to do some basics. A lot of people here in Liberty just rely on Synth Paste or pre-made stuff most of the time. Kind of icky. Me, I prefer doing things the old-fashioned way." He removed several containers from the pantry, and a few minutes later they stood facing the pile of ingredients on the counter. "So, want to help? You're a quick learner - if you pay close attention I'm sure you'll be making your own pizza next time." RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Widow - 08-12-2013 She nods. "I had to have that a lot of the time. But... I'd rather that.... Well, it was that or go hungry." she shrugs offhandedly, wondering how much he actually knew about what she use to do to survive before she met him, and how much she wanted to tell him. "I think I might need a bit of help to begin with.... I wouldn't even know where to start....." She grins and looks up at James. "But, one day I might be able to make them." RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Manticore - 08-12-2013 He nodded. "Paste is gross but it's better than nothing, that's for sure." Pausing, he looked at her intently, having picked up on her mood. "Pita, you shouldn't be ashamed of things you have to do to keep from... going hungry. Sometimes you do what you have to do, and that's all there is to it." The pizza was momentarily forgotten as he realized it was hypocritical for him to say that, considering the guilt that still ate at him every single day. Still, he hoped it might make her feel better. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Widow - 08-12-2013 "Yeah... I guess so." Pita smiles slightly. "I never took things from people who needed it. Even though Ru... she.... wanted me to. I kinda got in trouble a little bit for it." She looks out the window, watching the leaves on the trees blow in the breeze as she added "Sometimes I think they just felt sorry for me though...." She shakes her head, looking like she was deep in thought. "I mean, if I didn't get her enough stuff she liked, she would lock me up somewhere for the night." She shakes her head and looks back at James for a moment before wrapping her arms around him in a hug. "But, its ok now. You wont do that." she smiles slightly and brushes her hair out of her eyes. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Manticore - 08-13-2013 He reached down and patted her on the back, his face stoic while he worked through what she'd told him. "You did the right thing, even though you didn't have to. That's the mark of a good person, Pita. You never belonged with the Rogues, and certainly not with Ruby. You're different than she is, remember that." He sighed, letting go and stepping back. He looked her in the eye. "But I will never do anything like that to you, like you said. When you're here, you're here by your choice. You can always leave if you want to." He smiled, trying to reassure her that things would be fine from now on. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Widow - 08-13-2013 Pita nods "I'm not that good of a person, really." She leans against the bench, "If you want me to stay, I don't want to go anywhere else.... I like it here with you, dad... urm... James." She puts her hands over her face and looks down, before trying to shrug off the last of the comment she just made. "Um, That pizza?" she stands up properly and looks at him, trying to subtly changing the topic, "What can I help with?" RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Manticore - 08-13-2013 His lips curved into a subtle smile at her words. Realizing her embarrassment at the slip, he decided to let it rest for now and continue on with the pizza. He turned to the piled ingredients on the counter. "The first thing we need to do is mix the yeast and water." He grabbed a bowl, filled it with water, and then sprinkled the yeast into the water. "Then we need to just stir it for a minute," and he stirred until the yeast was dissolved. "Now we add the flour here, some salt, a tiny bit of sugar, and some olive oil." He added those ingredients to the bowl, and stirred some more until the dough formed. "And now we knead the dough. I think you can help with this. Just put your hands in there and mush it around for a bit." RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Widow - 08-13-2013 Pita relaxes a bit after James kept talking about making the pizza. She watches with interest, and stands on tip toes so she can see over the bench when she goes to help. She giggles when she puts her hands into the doughy mixture. "It feels funny" She looks up at him, blowing her fringe out of her eyes before looking back at the doughy mixture. "So, this is used to make the.....?" she asks. RE: The Lambert House, Planet Denver - Manticore - 08-13-2013 "The crust of the pizza, yes. We'll flatten it out and put the other stuff on top in a minute." He grinned at her. "Keep kneading. It needs to be smooth before it'll be ready." He turned and rummaged through several drawers. He was pretty sure he had a pizza stone in here somewhere. |
