Then, reduce its cargo hold...if it is meant to be a frigate. Also, what are those important disadvantages? (if there are any atleast)

So it's normal that he has different stats. And as aerlem noticed, it has some quite important disadvantage too.
In terms of balance, whether it's a frigate or not is irrelevant. Besides, it's primary use is to use it as a transport. You trade with a salvager.
And the 'disadvantages' are irrelevant as well. They're very minor and in most cases don't balance the ship out.

Nope, sry : You DO NOT trade with a salvager. ( Even if most players do tend to misuse the ship accordingly )

A Salvager is a ship indended to salvage, to scrap.
In dangerous territory , and with sufficient cargo space to make it profitable.

Trade with a P-Train, or with a Transport.
Scrap with a Sally.

As far as I am concerned : Strip the Sally of some of it´s Bots, will not hurt me.
But don´t call it a transport : it is no transport, it´s a monster built for salvaging, and for survival.

I would even live with decreased cargo space, if it get´s a little faster / more agile then. Let it have about 2500 cargo and more manouverability, or let it have 3000 cargo and a little less bots. NP with me.

That comes under trading fyi.
And you always see salvagers trading commodities other than scrap, such as contraband.

If it has a hold equal to or bigger than 2k units, it is a transport. Means you use it to fill it's cargo hold and make sure you can make it from A to B without getting shot down on your way, regardless of how you call the process of filling your hold.

Paraphrasing Lenin, misusing a ship often enough makes it proper usage.
Poor paraphrase, I know.

I figured I would sound off on this.

11 Pages. 11 Pages of the same old tired worn out words. And it all boils down to one thing.

Pirates want Transports to be Easy Kills.

We've had these threads ad infinitum and we will continue having these threads. Those who pirate want transports to be weak - those who transport want transports to be strong - pirates sometimes make claims such as "transports should be weak to encourage cooperation" - going on to suggest either escort or convoys. In instances where escorts can't kill a pirate faster then the pirate can kill the charge - or where a convoy can rape a pirate faster then he can say "2mildordie"

Abandon your pretense. It has absolutely no meaning at all. Your new, and your parroting the same arguments we have all heard a million times.

Worse, a Dev has already told you that your reasoning is stupid, and yet you continue to whine as if that iss going to make any difference at all.

It doesn't. So stop.

Remember kiddies, space is dangerous. Pirates like to say this as some justification as to why transports should watch out - but guess what, the knife cuts both ways.

Transports aren't hard to kill.

Awesome how you just waltz in here after not playing for....how many years now?...., completely misread the point of the thread, and tell us "kiddies" we're wrong about balance.

This thread isn't about transport survivability in general - that's a whole other can of worms that's been addressed in excruciating detail in a number of threads.

It's about two transports in particular that offer much higher survivability than others without sufficient drawbacks.
It does not matter how good you are at killing transports, if a transport has sufficient durability by virtue of its hull and regens, it will make it to the next base.
In case of the Salvager, this is taken to such an extreme that in most situations, the player can afford to just avoid interaction with an attacker entirely and solely "interact" with his or her thrust key.

Then target the truster, this whole thread is because he lost a fight, most Nerf nerf nerf! posts are.

Leave the Salvager alone!
