RE: First Baffin Zoner Zummit at The Zenarch, Malaclypse Freeport - Quiron - 05-02-2013 Quiron leaned to Parkes so no one else heard him. “We should do exactly the same as they did in the past, help them with medical vessels, no more.” he stated cynically. “Mr. Matok is right, the history repeats itself.” he replied quietly to Parkes. “Back then the Zoner Alliance and the Defense Forces, now the Confederation and the FPDF. I can imagine how it would turn out when the first true conflict arises.” he filled his glass and took a sip. “And I agree with you too, it is strange how they are trying to persuade others to join this organization. I wonder what their goals are. Dragging the whole Zoner community into the conflict with Gallia? Trying to impress us from the emotional side to achieve what they want? Convincing us that it is our war too, because they have seen a few Gallic ships in the Omicrons? Those vessels could be stolen.” he sighed. RE: First Baffin Zoner Zummit at The Zenarch, Malaclypse Freeport - Enkidu - 05-02-2013 “Frickin’ merde...” Achille’s mind cursed as he spammed the communicator, swearing slightly under his breath as feedback spat and hollered within his inner ear ruining any further attempt of espionage on his boss foiled by a single, casual, flick of a switch. The pain receded and he lost interest, deactivating the infernal transmitter as a marching-band of headaches paraded around his skull cavity, uttering one final insult to d'Autoine’s virility as he did so. Achille grimaced; clamping the wine bottle to his head as the throbbing dispelled. “Dieu I hate that man”. Around him the room was seething with debate; Zoner debating with Zoner over the one subject which appeared universally divisive; the hyperbolic nemesis of all Sirius, the so-called “Gallic threat”. Achille couldn’t suppress a particularly Gallic chortle. He stood up and scanned the room for Voncloud; seeing what he thought was the man several rows him. Voncloud intrigued Achille. He was an enigma; Gallic first name, unidentifiable latter name and a biology which Achille would have paid anything to have gene sequenced. So how does someone like that run one of Sirius’s wealthiest logistics industries? Achille questioned, brain confounded, he concept beyond him. Eventually curiosity overwhelmed Achille and he dropped the bottle back into its sheath and approached Voncloud; seating himself at a conveniently adjacent table to the fox. “So your are the esteemed Mr Voncloud I saw on the invitations roster, no?” Achille opened, his English worthy of a minor Bretonian aristocrat. “Pleased to meet you Sir, I’m Achille Augustin Nadeau, head science advisor and general pundit for the Commonwealth, if you’ve heard of us”. He flourished, facade impeccable. “So, how goes the Omicrons in these... interesting times?” It was at this moment Robert finished his speech, and Achille erupted into applause. RE: First Baffin Zoner Zummit at The Zenarch, Malaclypse Freeport - n00bl3t - 05-02-2013 "Well, there's the next DeFrance!" A random Zoner heckled Robert d'Autoine as he finished his speech. Tobias Parkes had a slight chuckle at the noise before turning to Lacroix. "The good ol' medical vessels ploy. Make a medical ship and do some humanitarian-esque activites for the resume and people think you're a beacon of hope and sound reason." Parkes had a dark chuckle. He knew exactly of what Lacroix spoke. Pretending to do something but not actually doing something. "I suppose one of us will have to speak soon, just to leave some sort of record we were here." The words escaped his mouth dryly, as if he'd rather eat sawdust. He wondered what exactly to say. RE: First Baffin Zoner Zummit at The Zenarch, Malaclypse Freeport - danski2011 - 05-02-2013 Bloggs got up and straightened his jacket.
He didn't like speeches all that much but if he wanted people to know who he was and to express his views to the crowd he was going to have to make one. "Lisa, please put something in my diary to remind me to continue this conversation with Matok some other time on a secure frequency". "yes sir" replied Lisa simply. Bloggs walked to the podium feeling a bit nervous but the sooner it was over with the sooner he could relax. Bloggs on the way to the podium nodded a thank you to Dr. Hodge van mojo for inviting him, finally on the stage he tapped the mic to make sure it was working then begun his speech. Hello everyone its a pleasure to finally meet you all, regretfully the other administrators at Freeport 101 could not make it tonight. Im sure they would have truly loved the place. I want to begin by answering the good doctors question, do I have anything to lose? - When I think about this question an answer comes straight to mind, that answer was offcourse no. Then I look at the other side of things, what do I have to gain? - this answer does not come to me straight away. not because there is not a lot to gain but because the list is almost endless. Just a few examples of why I think that The Zoners Republic of Freeport 101 should join, we would gain new trading posts which would better our economy, there would be additional forces that have the ability to protect us in our time of need, we would have powerful allies that are willing to stand by us and help us achieve our goals. I also ask how this will help zoners as whole? - the same answers come to mind as well as a few others, for example Zoners as a whole would be taken seriously the people of Sirius would have to listen to us, we would have the ability to defend ourselves against almost any threat, we could help ourselves to meet any goal we set out to achieve...the list goes on so to put it simply divided we are weak, together we are strong I hate to use this as an example but I feel I must - many of us dislike being in house space and that is fair enough but we cannot deny their strength when their own people become united they are much stronger than they would be alone. I believe that joining the Confederation of Freeports will make us strong and bring us together so I am all for this idea and would like to have The zoners Republic of Freeport 101 join it, so will you accept us? Bloggs looked around before getting of the stage and returning to his seat, he would have to talk to other people, he knew that his speech alone wouldn't be enough and this was a valuable chance for him to make new friends and allies. "Lisa you still there" asked Bloggs " yes sir" replied Lisa "So what's do we have next on our to do list" "Well sir I would suggest that you talk with........ RE: First Baffin Zoner Zummit at The Zenarch, Malaclypse Freeport - Aazalot - 05-02-2013 Voncloud was watching and listening, a lot of mixed opinions and worries he thought, was is something he was used to, back in the day it was a big money earner, but OSI wasn't in a position to join in with any large scale conflict. He rubbed his forehead at being stared at when the situation between his company and Rheinland was brought up. He turned to greet the man who had just introduced himself but it was at that time Roberts speech had ended, he stood up again to speak My Apologies Mr d'Autoine, but as you said, you are a gaul..and Im not afraid to say this, but I cannot help but think your view is Biased and call upon the confederacy to highly consider its position in regards to letting a Gallic run Freeport be allowed into it organisation with the concerns of its current and potential future members have about the Gallic threat. Mr d'Autoine's joining of CoF could cause unintentional tension to those who did experience the backlash of betrayal" Once he was done he sat down and looked to Achille as he picked up his refreshed drink "Yes, I am Voncloud, cant say I have heard of you or your organisation but, I haven't been keeping up to date with every single Zoner Organisation as much as I would like" *The fox ponders as he sips* And the Omicrons?, keep us very busy, what with Corsairs, Outcasts and Nomads Dogging us when they can" RE: First Baffin Zoner Zummit at The Zenarch, Malaclypse Freeport - Eduard - 05-02-2013 Before Voncloud sat down to talk with Achille, Robert clearly heard what he said and replied: " I understand your distrust for human ethnics or races, especially the Gaul, but I dare say I was expecting someone else to come up with this. A bretonian maybe? " He said with a subtle degree of irony as he couldn't understand Voncloud's generalization and distrust of Gauls considering he's not human himself, therefore Robert clearly believed he is not in the right position to come with such facts. " But ... " He said as he lifted himself from the seat " I wasn't expecting to find such a degree of generalization between the ranks of Zoners, I dare say. It is true some Gauls had a troublesome past, but Rheinland, Bretonia, Liberty and Kusari as well had the pleasure of having such exquisite citizens as well Judging every Gaul like that is exactly the same as assuming every Rheinlander is infected. " He said That being said, I would like to step away from this area of stereotypes, as it'll do nothing but hurt more and more individuals. The Commonwealth may have a significant number of Gaul members, but then, there are also enough of us who are not Gaul but used to be citizens of other Houses or even pure-blood zoners. Moreover, I think there are people in this exquisite amphiteatre who could tell you the Commonwealth are not that kind of persons " He said, looking for familiar faces as James Little " And how about we let ourselves loose and completely forget this terms which express the House from where one originated from, now that I am thinking. I prefer to believe that we, and everyone else in this Amphiteatre are not Bretonians, Not Rheinlanders, Not Gauls, not Hispanics, but Zoners. " He then took a moment to think. " That being said, I appreciate that you made your mind heard. And I personally appreciate that you addressed such subjects with me, rather than behind my back. Merci beaucoup, for that. I assure you, no one will have any reason to distrust the Commonwealth " He then sat down on his seat again, watching Voncloud's reaction, he couldn't see him clearly from the distance and the crowd. RE: First Baffin Zoner Zummit at The Zenarch, Malaclypse Freeport - Quiron - 05-02-2013 The Confederation is still forming, yet I can already feel the dissension. Quiron thought while listening Voncloud’s and d’Autoine’s small debate. Uniting the Zoners is nonsense and impossible. He turned to his conversation partner. “My priorities here are to listen, not to make empty speeches, Mr. Parkes.” he leaned back into his seat. “Until our interests are not addressed, I wouldn’t act, to be honest. Anyway, what else can I say to an administrator of a border world Freeport? They are called Zoners indeed, yet so different to those who live in the deep Omicrons." after a little pause he continued. ”Also, if I start talking about Gallia they may think we are interested in that topic." he chuckled. “But I don’t want to be a spoilsport, Mr. Parkes. If you feel you would speak out your mind, nobody will have an objection against it, I assume.” he emptied his second glass of wine. RE: First Baffin Zoner Zummit at The Zenarch, Malaclypse Freeport - thseeger - 05-02-2013 ![]() Thomas moves down from the podium, to make room for the next speaker, he sits down and wait for the chance to go up an answer, the good commander.
He waited to Mr.Bloggs finished his speech, and noded whit a smile as he past him on the way up to the podium. He turned his head to look ad Commander Matok and gave a respectful nod. My good Commander Matok i hear what you say, and i understand your concerns about this, i understand your concern about COF, just being the same thing as the Old Cauncil, but i assure you its not the same thing, we have learned from our past, but we have also learned from the good things that the old Council did. But we cant keep living in fear of old Ghosts and mistakes to happen again, if you live your life like that, you will never live a truly free life, and will automaticly close you self in a box. I was taught as a child, when you fall on a bike you get back up, you just dont give up on the idear of riding that bike, same thing still go for allot of things in life, when times get rough, you dont give up you keep going. He looks around and try to smile encouraging to the people who bother to listen. I am sorry if i failed to explain more exactly, what the COF is Commander Matok, and what makes it different from the old Council, one of the main strengths of the COF, and perhaps the strongest, is that we embrace each other as equals, despite how different we are, we use each other as advisors and we help each other when troubles arrives. For example, Zoner Humanitarian Research that i represent, is building a Satellite station to aid whit secure coms channels, and to host the Zoner Emergency Channel. When we started this project, we first asked what the members of the Confederation thought about it,and they spoke there mind freely. Next step was building the station, we then asked for help to build this installation, whit in the Confederation and people stepped up to aid us, we never demanded aid, people did be course of there own free will, be course this is what we do in the Confederation of Freeports, we help each other. He raises his arms to make the point. I ts that simple Commander, we help , we stand together, but most importent we respect how different we are. He Smiles a friendly Smile to Matok, and then continues. You spoke also about the Freeport Defends Force [FPDF], yes i heard you when you told that, you use to lead Zoner Defends Force. and i will say that you achieved much more then you give your self credit for. you protected zoners whit your actions, and that is a achievement in itself. And yes some mistakes will always happen, and some times things do not turn out the way we intent them to do, but never the lees we get back up on that bike and keep going. He looks on all of them, trying to make a statement. We need a Force to protect our self when all other hopes, or deplomatic solution runs out, we cant trust mercenaries and other hirelings to solve every problem we will come a cross, what if the other part pays more, then what will we do then, Mr Robert D"Autoine, tell them they cant hurt us be course they need us, No we need that force not to use as a weapon of force but to show the flag, that we care what happen to our homes, so that you have some one to call for if the need realy is there. He smiles again and looks around and then looks ad Matok again. I will make you a promise my fellow Zoners, i will not give up i will aid you as i best can, and i will keep riding that bike even when the weels is gone. Whit those words he left the stage and sad down next to Mojo and Voncloude RE: First Baffin Zoner Zummit at The Zenarch, Malaclypse Freeport - Gypsie - 05-02-2013 Dr. Mojo stood up and clapped Thomas' speech. He knew that none of them were saying anything new, not even him, but that was a good thing. It would show the rest that they did not have any double speech or hidden intentions. Thomas had done a good job. It was time to settle the matter of the CoF membership and [FPDF] creation, so he decided to try a different approach. He walked yet once again the steps to the stage, and grabbed the mic.
Dear brothers and sisters, we have already been really honest about what we are offering here, it is up to you now. Let me clarify though, so you can weigh the pros and cons that you might be seeing over this. Fact: The Confederation of Freeports already exists, and it is the biggest conglomerate of Zoner groups and individual bases. Joining it would mean, on top of all the advantages already mentioned, that you would be among the majority, and not the minority. The decisions that the CoF takes will reach your own turf, even if you're based on the farthest of the Edge Worlds. It would be wiser to be there when the calls are made, and have a place where to speak your opinions, instead of just letting others decide for the rest. He had already been studying who among those who didn't belong to the CoF yet, were more reluctant. Commander Matok, I beg you re-consider your position towards this. The whole of TAZ supports the Confederation of Freeports, even Mr. Cole from Freeport XXI will be getting a seat among us. I feel that having you out of this Confederation would only broaden the gap between Baffin and Freeport 6, which, in my opinion, should not exist at all. I admire and respect your feeling of independance, but we rely on you, against the Gallic threat for instance, and you rely on us, against the same problem. For instance, if you had shown interest in Malaclypse Freeport before, you would already know that the evacuation plan we have developed for Freeport XXI should the need of such operation rise, also includes Freeport 6. We did this out of pure good will, because we do care about you and your people. We would also have liked to have you around when we spoke to our neighbours regarding this same matter, but that gap I mentioned didn't allow for it to happen. IT is not too late, Commander Matok, and we'd love you to have you on our side. Same goes to you Mr. Parkes, and to all Phoenixes, and everyone of you who have doubts yet. I propose you give a try to the Confederation, say six months, or even a year for Goddess sake, what harm does it mean to you? He didn't imagine this meeting to go this way. He had never pictured that other Zoners would despise the idea so much, so he had to try harder, or else he would be in part responsible for the largest rupture that the Zoner community had ever seen. The need of unity had never been so big. I am older than what you might ever imagine gents, and I have seen more blood and sorrow than all of you. Please, do not make the wrong decision. He went back to his seat, wishing that they would all come to reason. RE: First Baffin Zoner Zummit at The Zenarch, Malaclypse Freeport - Lucky - 05-03-2013 After a few minutes consultation with Rober d'Autoine, Lucky LeRoux ambled up to the stage and with a nod from Van Mojo took the microphone. "OK folks.. Lucky LeRoux, Administrator for Freeport 10, just in case you don't know me. Now, here it is, it's my declared intention to do the right thing by the Freeport and the wide variety of people that rely on the trade and protection that we can offer. As you know, the Base lies deep within some of the most turbulent and hostile space known to Sirius, where sometimes, the nearest ship may appear to be friendly, but reveal itself to be a foe, often with speed and deadly consequences. Marauding gangs are commonplace. We live with this on a daily basis and accept it as part of the life cycle of the Taus. But that doesn't mean we can't take measures to protect ourselves. Therefore, after long negotiations, as M. d'Autoine has already mentioned, the Administration has agreed to allow the Commonwealth Zoners to base themselves out of FP10 in return for provision of protection in accordance with Freeport protocols." LeRoux pauses and holds up a hand.... "Yes, M. d'Autoine has a Gallic background and in fact, I consider this to be an advantage in dealing with some of our more aggressive neighbours, so I'll brook no malicious or undermining comments about race, thank you. I trust him without doubt." LeRoux takes a hard, slow look around the Amphitheatre for a hint of dissent.....but, seeing none, continues.... "Secondly, to ensure that we have a voice among Zoners and in consideration of the beacon of diplomacy and hope we can provide for Zoners and ALL others within the Taus, Robert d'Autoine and I would like to take a seat as equal partners representing Freeport 10 and the Commonwealth as one party within the Confederation, so that we can understand the latest intelligence across the broad spectrum of Sirius and take advantage of pooled assistance where required." "Thanks for your attention, we look forward to joining you." LeRoux gently replaced the microphone and returning to his seat next to Robert, shaking hands, muttered..."That's it Buddy, we've set our stall out...." |
