RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 07-17-2014 "Fate," he said as he laid back with his hand behind his head after another drink, "talking about something with a strange sense of humor. People tempt it or are tempted by it. Those who should be six feet under walk away unscathed while some who should be alive and well are six feet under. I never could figure it out." "I also believe though that it brings people together who are the most unlikely pairs and separates those who are just as likely." He then turned his head on his hands and looked at her, "So yes, I do believe in it. I just could never make sense of it." He looked skyward again, "I've seen a lot of things in the medical profession that I couldn't explain that only fate can." He looked back over at her and smiled, then sat up and grabbed his fire iron and stoked the fire a bit as he through another log on it, "Here we are, a Rogue and a Zoner, not exactly your likely pair to be together, enjoying some peace, quiet and each others company." The glow of the fire was showing an attractive young woman as he looked at her for a moment. He took a drink and nodded, "So yes, I do think fate is a big player in our lives." RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 07-17-2014 Ashlea nodded, still watching the stars thinking about what he had said for a moment. "Sometimes it is best to not question these things." She looked across at him and smiled. "Things happen as they do for a reason." She looked up again as he did and closed her eyes. "A Rogue and a Zoner....." She shook her head. "Down here, I just feel like another person. I'm not wanted, no one is trying to kill me.... and I am in good company." She moved slightly in the chair as she tried to cover a yawn. "Unlikely pair as we are... I'm glad we did meet...." She smiled as she quietly added "Fate or not." She was fighting to stay awake, wishing the night would never end. She opened her eyes and watched him sitting in the chair. She was, for the first time in too long, genuinely happy. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 07-17-2014 He noticed her yawn. It had indeed been a long day and there would be at least a few more days in front of them. More rest. More relaxation and more peace and quiet. Tomorrow would be trail riding and rest was needed. Doc rose from his chair and retrieved a bucket of water from the lake. Carefully, he poured it over the fire to kill the flames to a smoulder. "There," he said with his old world southern drawl, "you won't be a problem now." He then brought in the glasses and the remains of the wine before returning outside to where Ashlea lay. "I see a tired young lady," he said kindly to her as he extended a hand to help her up, "perhaps we should retire for the night with a night cap as tomorrow will bring a new day." Looking at her, he almost didn't want to distract her as he could see just how happy she was. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 07-18-2014 She took his offer of help and stood up. The fire was not producing heat anymore, the cool air was refreshing. "As long as the new day is as good as today has been...." She runs her hand through her hair, happily surprised it hadn't knotted again. "You know, I don't really want the night to end." The two walked back into the house where the glow of the oil lamp was almost as comforting as the fire had been. She looked around the room again, the old world beauty of it still took her breath away. "It's like stepping back in time." she commented, just loud enough for Doc to catch what she was saying. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 07-18-2014 Doc looked around and nodded as he answered her question softly, "It is old world, from a lifetime past, from my childhood back when things were simple, well, back then they weren't." He turned and smiled at her, "Nor do I." He went over and grabbed two fresh glasses. The wine had relaxed him but he did prefer stronger. He looked through his collection and went for a bottle of Coalition Vodka, a favorite of his. He smiled at her, "What would you like?" He smirked as he spoke, "In vino veritas." There was a pause, "Although it sometimes gets me into trouble." RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 07-18-2014 "I don't mind. I'm happy with Whatever is going" She noticed his collection and was quite impressed. The selection of beverages was quite large, and once again, most of the bottles she had never seen before. She didn't understand what he had said, she was curious to know what he had meant, but shook her head "You, get in trouble?" laughing, she grinned and added "I don't believe that for a second." She found some old books and read through the titles. None she recognized. "If this was from your childhood... I would assume you really did have an interesting upbringing." She looked across at him as he poured them both a drink and smiled. He seemed to belong to a different era, completely different to any man she had ever met before. He intrigued her and to her surprise she had warmed to him. Normally, she would remove herself from the situation, she had finally admitted to herself that she liked him. She knew the chances of him liking her were slim to none, and that it could cause trouble. Shaking the thought, she decided regardless of what happened, she was going to enjoy herself. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 07-18-2014 He began pouring her a glass of the same Coalition Vodka he was going to have. As he poured it, he talked about it, "Some time ago I befriended the former premier of the SCRA. I don't remember how it transpired but we worked things out through some trade. Coalition Vodka is one of the finest vodkas I've ever drank and I have plenty of it." With that, he handed the glass to Ashlea. Taking his own, he brought his glass over and klinked his to hers with a smile and took a sip. He looked around again with his head as he stood before her. He then took another sip of the vodka and commented, "I was raised fairly well. It was just a different time....a very different time. Most of what I learned stayed with me. Simple things that included respect and being a gentleman." He smiled a moment and added, "You can thank my mother for that one!" He took another drink, "Trouble...it never failed to find me. I never want it and I'll never provoke it but on occasion it finds me but you can rest assured, Young Lady, that I will not cower to it." The last thought bothered him a bit but he let it pass. He was enjoying his evening and was finding more intrigue with Ashlea as time past. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 07-18-2014 "A different time?" She looked confused, not sure what he meant. She assumed he meant a different situation, or circumstances instead of time. She decided the world could do with more men like Doc, even respect was hard to find in this age. "Your mother raised you well." She smiles slightly, she knew the feeling when it came to trouble finding people. She had stopped frequenting the bar on Alcatraz for that reason, and it was the best explanation as to why her sidearm never left her hip. "Trouble brings experience, and experience brings wisdom. It might be annoying, but not all trouble is necessarily bad." She frowned slightly, unsure if what she had just said even made sense. She just took another sip of her drink and fell silent. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 07-19-2014 Doc softly smiled in silence at the mention of his mother. Being young when she died, he missed her terribly even to this day. The terrible disease that took her never stopped her from raising him right. It made sense for that reason why his father, even though he had remarried, was never quite right. That was when he heard her statement about wisdom and nodded, "That is very true, I just wish everyone shared your sentiment." He finished his drink and went to pour himself another, offering her a refill as well. "I've skirted both side of the law out of necessity. Don't let my profession fool you. Anyone can take a life and I do mean anyone but few can save one or even care to do so. I've both taken and saved lives....." He paused with a deep sigh and turned towards a window to hide a moment of guilt. He gave a mild shake of his head and spoke softly, "Justified as some of those killings may have been, I would question myself." "Yes, wisdom does come from it all," he finished, taking another deep sigh. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 07-19-2014 Ashlea just listened to what he was saying before nodding slowly. After a moment, she walked across to Doc and placed her hand on his back, giving him a reassuring smile. "Whats been done... It's done. It was the right thing to do at the time, regardless of whether it is justified now or not." She sips her drink and moves her hand from his back once she realized it was possibly inappropriate to have done that. "You are a good man, John, just because you have done things in the past, that doesn't change that." |
