Laowai admin poll - Dab - 12-02-2008 ' Wrote:Dab: But it wasn't a Corsair. It was a Kusari girl who was already in GC once, went through detox then was sent over once again. Link to story:I'm simply speaking about Cardi and the GC. Not his story. My problem isn't with his story, its simply the fact that he didn't include anyone's opinion in the story but his own. Now that would be fine if he were dealing with NPC GC and NPC OC. But he was including player factions into that story without speaking to those factions and discussing it with them. In my opinion, he needed to talk with Jura (Or Eppy, don't remember which was leader at the time of this fiasco) before doing that, as well as Kuraine. But he locked out anyone else from his story, meaning they couldn't do a single thing about what was going on and were never allowed to give their opinions or influence a story that concerned their faction. I'd never have made an RP story about a person getting in Phantoms as a spy without the consent, or at the very least the opinion, of Kane. (This is just an example.) Laowai admin poll - farmerman - 12-02-2008 I vote yes. One incident that really said a lot to me was a while back I was working out the background for a character who was a Corsair. I really didn't know him beyond speaking a bit with him in a group chat previously, but he was very insightful in helping me to sort things out. He seems knowledgeable, level headed, and open to talking with others. He also has a great RP reputation. So it seems like a plan to me! Laowai admin poll - bluntpencil2001 - 12-02-2008 How do you know he didn't? For instance, Kuraine, leader of the GCs, doesn't seem to have taken offence. I know of at least one Outcast that has tried similar, telling very few people of their plans. What's the difference? Laowai admin poll - Dab - 12-02-2008 ' Wrote:How do you know he didn't? Just because an OC did it doesn't mean Laowai can. And I'd have just as big a problem with the OC who did it as I would with Laowai. But the very few people that OC told.. Did it include the faction leader of the faction he was making a spy character inside of? If so, than he fulfilled the obligations he had. Laowai did not consult the OC leadership.. Even if he did consult Kuraine (though I have not seen of it, nor have I been told of it happening), he still needed to consult with the OC, who were the most involved in his story. Laowai admin poll - Orin - 12-02-2008 Guys, before this public interrogation of one thing Laowai did, that has a few miffed, gets any further, riddle me this. What bearing does it have on this decision? Laowai admin poll - Blodo - 12-02-2008 ' Wrote:I'm simply speaking about Cardi and the GC. Not his story. I'd imagine they'd trumpet it across Sirius far and wide, but that doesn't seem to be the case. So technically it didn't change anything for the Outcast factions now did it... I fully understand where you are coming from, but this Nomad-OC RP seemed to have fully public (in Alpha) and even involved indies that were present in the system at the time the Nomads seemed to visit. So if it was an exclusive 101st/Nomad thing then yes I would agree that he should've asked permission, but the way I see it it involved everyone in Alpha, hence ultimately also his indie... Either way IMO this RP is far from a fiasco, it's a very interesting story that deserves to be built upon... Laowai admin poll - Jihadjoe - 12-02-2008 Hyung Soong's first post on this subject has very eloquently summed up what I wanted to say when I saw this discussion and thought I shouldn't post. Ben (Laowai) is an extremely thoughtful and decent guy. I trust him not to take in character animosity into admin decisions. That fairness of mind is exactly what is needed in an admin. He has good people skills, which is the most important part of any leadership role. If you can't keep people onside, or behave like an ass to them why should you expect any respect or be given any power? Laowai displays the human decency that is needed to be given a position of power, and that is why he gets my vote. He may be a dirty corsair dog (damnit you all know he is) but I know that he won't take that roleplay animosity anywhere than his rolplay as a corsair or xeno or whatever. I have no doubt that he'd sanction himself if he broke the rules. @Orin, all decisions like this need public scrutiny, this debate (if we can keep it good natured) is just that. So technically it didn't change anything for the Outcast factions now did it...The situation that resulted from the RP was the fiasco. And from what I remember, it was actually spread to the other Corsairs, not just top-secret files, and 'somehow' everyone suddenly learned about it regardless of its security level. Furthrmore, it involved much more than the OC NPCs. In fact, it didn't involve the NPCs at all.. The entire report was based on Sindrom's 101st, who has been long-since exiled, speaking with a Keeper. And from that he said the entire OC nation was in league with Keepers. Now thats okay, its Corsair propoganda. But he made a GC spy in a BD GB (and you would NEVER captain a BD GB before being a full GC, Cardi and all, and his crew would have been loyal GC, as there aren't anywhere near enough spies in GC. In fact, its nearly spy-free, for spies can't take the cardi.). More than that, he flew that GC into Alpha, screenshotted a bunch of stuff from Sindroms and the Keeper and one other 101st and then flew off with a Corsair escort to Gamma and released the report. The OC were never consulted about this RP. There are quite a few holes in this story, and they would have been plugged up if he had simply involved other people's opinions into it. Laowai admin poll - kindred - 12-02-2008 Laowai has my full support and vote.
