Shadows of JiangXi - arvg - 01-08-2011 ![]() Hauling the Jeep up and out of the ditch, Alvarez cut it up onto the broken and cracked highway that ran along the canal, passing the speed boat that was heading in the opposite direction. They weren't showing any signs of stopping, which meant their intention was to bypass checkpoint Alpha and head directly to the coast. Alvarez shrugged as he drove, it didn't bother him... Now what did bother him was on the far shore of the canal, the leaping and bounding mechanized death machine that was still several miles back, heading after the boat. It didn't take a rocket scientist to see that Colonel Gonzales was mad, and was looking to get a little payback. Given a day or two, she might actually catch them... He leaned on the steering wheel, shaking his head, chaos... but that was survival training on JiangXi, pure chaos unleashed. He gunned the engine turning back towards the city of New HangZhou, driving steadily through the forgotten and desolate wasteland that had once been the heart of the planet. Broken pavement, overgrown rice fields, and downed powerlines... JiangXi was a land of ghosts, powerful and loud ghosts. The ghosts of the Coalition's arrogance, of its failure to protect it's most important asset; it's people. A hard lesson that had driven the people towards Katz, and the hope of something much better on the horizon. He passed a battered and worn looking vehicle with one of the recruits in it, and didn't stop, they were on the right track for Checkpoint Alpha, and that was sufficient. He crested a hill, and like a shocked scar upon the horizon was the city. He'd heard tell of it, but he'd never actually seen it before. Not from the ground, and certainly not so personal. It was a gaping wound, radioactive, sick and poisoned. Overrun by the dregs of a society driven by the purest of instincts survival. For all the progress they had made, there was still so far to go. He swept the Jeep down the highway, rolling to a stop beside the first figure limping up the road. Colonel Gonzales' gunner, Mickie. Alvarez stopping long enough to let the weary and battered looking man clamber gratefully into the jeep, before he pressed on, heading for the next lonely figure, further up the road. Petko looked worse for wear, as Alaverz rolled up beside him, tired and beaten. And the young Hispanic Captain smiled warmly, "Eh, you look like you could use a ride, si?" As soon as the Dimitriov had climbed into the passenger seat, Alvarez spun the wheel, accelerating back the way he had come, towards the Social Credit. "You two look like you could use some Vodka," he chipped cheerily, nodding to the glove compartment. "AKDOVODKA best in Sirius!" ![]() Shadows of JiangXi - Pacific - 01-08-2011 ![]() Dimitrov needed some time to realize he was on a jeep. He looked around he saw a female a male Gunner and a young man who was driving. Petko asked. "Were the hell am I ? " The Gunner told him. As he was keeping and eye on the perimeter. " Your on a jeep sir. We managed to get you from your peaces. " Petko sighted and got annoyed of the short and unsettling answer he received from the gunner. He looked At the sky trying not to puke his guts out in his mask. Cause the Bandit give him a stone column in his stomach. He looked once again around. And asked the boy witch he saw had the Captain Colors. "Hey Captain whats your name." Enrico responded: "Captain Enrico Alvarez, Major Dimitrov. " Petko laugh "Heh Alvarez ALVAREZ !!!!" Petko shocked to see the son of Ricardo Alvarez. " Well what the hell are you doing in here? You know your dad is gonna kill you for being here *laughs*" Petko then takes his backpack and pulls out a Folder. " Give this to your father tell him its from Major Dimitrov. " Enrico reply " Si !" Petko sighted and asked. " How much time untill we reach way point alpha ? " Shadows of JiangXi - arvg - 01-08-2011 ![]() Alvarez took the file, stuffing it in between the seat cushions as he drove, wondering if Petko had received a knock to the head. There were three people in the car... and definitely no women... "We should be there in a few minutes, comrade..." Alvarez said, accelerating the Jeep a little as they again passed the galloping mech in hot pursuit of the small speed boat. The Gunner in the back uttering a few curses and flipping the bird at it. "Most of the recruits have already made it, and should be starting on the next leg of their journey." Alvarez turned the jeep off of the road and bounced along the dirt track up towards the Social Credit. Finally pulling to a stop and letting them out. "However..." Enrico said, catching Petko's arm and pulling him off to the side. "There are reports that a Phantom is loose on the planet. Command want you to take the Social Credit... after the recruits are all on their way, and sweep back over the city and the drop zone, see if you can find him." Shadows of JiangXi - mtjsmith - 01-09-2011 Chun charged over another crest, kicking up sand and dirt that had strewn over the tarmac. He landed the quad perfectly and kicked the shift down a gear to get the revs up for the next small hill. Up he went and he enjoyed the air-time. He looked along the road, it was straight and narrow. Checking his new radiation meter, it was bleeping very low. At these levels - he could lose the gas mask for the moment. He decided against it, he had probably had far too much over the last few days as it is.
"Never been to this county before, How dull." He wasn't joking. The plains were the least nuked part of the planet for good reason. There was nothing here. The flats were pop-marked with rocky outcrops, straw like grass and the odd tree here and there. Ling kicked up a gear and accelerated, the road was much less broken here. Now he could really get the speed up. Luckily he did, because an explosion went off where he would have been if he didn't speed up. "...the hell?" Ling looked behind him and swore. He was being chased by three vehicles. They were three man jeeps. A driver, a gunner and a man at the back with a big grenade launcher. The vehicles looked old and shoddy. Nothing like the next generation armour the marines were using back at Checkpoint Alpha. "Bandits. Must be." Another explosion went off to the left of Ling. He was gonna be dead if he stayed on this long straight road. "ARGH! I am tired of being chased by beasts, monsters, zombies and birds! TO HELL WITH YOU ALL!" He screamed to the heavens and took his quad bike off the road. His quad was more maneuverable than the jeeps chasing him. He would use this to his advantage. Reaching over his shoulder and into his backpack, he grabbed one of the SMGs. Arcing to the left, he forced the jeeps off road. He then made a snap right turn, outfoxing his attackers. Swinging his SMG around to the side of him, he started firing. "Take it you dirty dirty..." He kept swearing as he fired his third burst. There were screams and the distinct sound of the bullets ripping into a few human-ish bodies. Two more explosions went off near Ling, and there was smaller arms fire kicking up dirt and sand along his path. Ling kicked the quad down another gear and went back onto the road. Two jeeps followed. "Well I got one." An explosion went off in front of him, tearing shards out of the road which pelted Ling and his quad. He was indeed wise to keep his mask on. Tugging at his belt, he pulled the pin on a grenade. Waiting two seconds, he threw it to the right hand side of him. The grenade hit the side of the road and the subsequent explosion caught one of the attacking jeeps, flipping it to left and taking it out of the action. "Haha! C'mon! I've met BIRDS more scary than you lot!" He laughed too soon. To his left two very different styled jeeps were closing on his position. The remaining jeep veered off to the left off of Ling's tail. "Crap, more. Fine, bring it... wait.. what?" Explosions and gunfire erupted between the jeeps. The two bandit tribes forgot about little Ling and were much more concerned with blasting each other. "Get some." Ling gunned the accelerator again to escape, he was entering a warzone. Shadows of JiangXi - Vince Piccio - 01-09-2011 The bandits lay dead and dying around him out front of the hospital. The two soldiers had beat a hasty retreat rather than confront a questionably hostile creature that was ripping swathes out of a much larger force. Given the circumstances, Iscariot would have done the exact same. This planet was dangerous. Why were Coalition soldiers running around in such small numbers? Training, maybe. Suicidal training. As he was thinking, he remembered that Mobius Paradox had wanted to talk to him. "Mobius, you got something for me?" he said into his comm, reconnecting the link to Judas' Sin. Shadows of JiangXi - Shazbot11 - 01-09-2011 The communications console crackled as the transmission signal pierced through the radiation interference; working quickly, the marine tuned the receiver to provide a more stable connection. "Coming though, Sir, confirming a stable comm-link. Just need another secoUUURGH!" Mobius wasted no timing in shoving the marine out of the seat. "HELLO, MR. ISCARIOT! I pray everything is going quite well on the surface! You'll be happy to know that I've come up with quite a few ideas for remedying our planet's little radioactive plight! Yet, as all such exquisite plans go, I will require some more details to refine them!" The marine slowly stood up, grimacing a bit. "You know, you could have just told me to move..." Mobius shot him a wicked glance. "THERE IS NO TIME FOR IDLE CHIT-CHAT! Any who, Mr. Iscariot, I would like to get some ionization readings from the planet's soil and atmosphere. There are some details from the archived logs of our...formerly-living associate that caused this little event of ecocide, yet it's simply not enough to isolate the prime elements responsible for such a wide-spread effect. OH! You could also get your Coalition friends to help out too! Ahh, such a marvelously-morbid scavenger hunt for information!" A gleeful cackle echoed through the engineering bay, followed quickly by Mobius clearing his throat. "You could expedite this process by performing some scans close to ground-zero of the radiological event. As always, more meticulous scans will yield more accurate results! Oh, and don't worry about the near-fatal levels of radiation. Your sperm will only scream for a second before being silenced for an eternity." Silence fell over the communication channel for a minute before Mobius piped up again. "AH YES! What of those fantastic little beasties down there? Anything interesting? How many limbs do they have? Do they wear pants? Please, please, PLEASE try to bring one back intact! I'm sure Dr. Ludwig would have a wonderful time performing a splendid vivisection on a good sample!" Shadows of JiangXi - Vince Piccio - 01-09-2011 Iscariot listened with patience, the only way to deal with Mobius, then nodded. "I'll see what I can do. I'm pretty close to one of the heaviest hit parts of the planet, so I'll go and get some scans for you. As for the beasts, there are some that are as big as houses, so they'd be kind of hard to get back up to the ship. But I'll see what I can do with that as well." Iscariot cut the comm channel and moved back into the hospital, planning on going through to get back to the huge crater. Shadows of JiangXi - arvg - 01-09-2011 ![]() "Thank you!" Elias called, crouched on a piece of broken debris watching Iscariot as he turned back towards the hospital. "It may sound self-serving, but you actually did them a favour putting them out of their misery..." He hopped down, slinging his rifle and looking at the power armour he had just watched tear through the bandits. "Those that didn't die right away... the radiation damaged their brains... too long on the planet... sterile... rotting from the inside out..." Elias shook his head. "I'm Lieutenant Elias, from New Hong Kong to the south of here..." he straightened up a little. "I figure, if you saved those nuggets lives just now... I should do something to pay you back..." Shadows of JiangXi - Pacific - 01-09-2011 ![]() Dimitrov was a bit surprised of the new orders high command give him. He looked at the Captain and figured he wasgiving him a Joke but when did some one from the Alvarez joke. he sead to himself " But I have already Killed some sort of a figure". He turned to Alvarez with his eye brow raised. " What are you talking abut. I killed some sort a figure before I entered the city. it shod be dead." Enrico give him a look that give the Major a strange gut falling. He sighted and Accepted that there maybe more unknowns. " Ok phantoms you say. Intresting what are the orders if I find out that he is there. " Petko still couldn't belive he was gonna ride in the Credit one of the oldest Storms in the fleet . He looked at the Credit thinking of the Karchov. Shadows of JiangXi - Tomtomrawr - 01-09-2011 ![]() ![]() Power-boating was another of Miller's favourite sports on Cambridge. Speeding little boats through tightly winding rivers, watching the banks and the activity of the countryside farms, hamlets and villages. The boat they had found was similar in size to what Miller drove on Cambridge, but much heavier. Squeezing it around corners took a lot more effort, his fingers still stinging with pain from earlier. Which was not a lot of help with what he was doing right now. He'd found a relatively straight section of the river and told Vorobiev to take control while he down deck. He'd found a medical kit with string and a sterilised needle, and had begun the process of stitching his wound up. It wouldn't hold for long, but hopefully long enough to get him to a point where he could lie down for a few weeks. He'd found a box of communist cookies - chuckling after reading the box - and was biting into a Stalin Snap. Join the Revolution! - with a backward R to make it look more Russian - was the phrase that had made him chuckle. Stitching up the wound took half an hour of torture - from the wound itself and his fingers as they tried to keep a hold of the tiny needle and work it into his skin. Twice Vorobiev had disturbed him, needing Miller's help to guide the boat through a particularly tricky corner, but he'd actually expected more. Eventually he'd finished, and joined Vorobiev up-top holding the box of cookies. Stalin Snaps, Trotsky Treats, Sherbert Lenins, Marx Munchies, Katz Krunchies and Engel Eclaires were the treats on selection in the box. He took the reigns of the boat again, allowing Vorobiev to go down under and do whatever he wanted to do. All he could hear was the splashing of the water against the sides of the boat, and the gentle hum of the engine as it pushed the ship forward. It was on a fairly low setting to keep the noise down and not alert any creatures or people nearby to their presence. He kept driving the boat, his only wish being to hear a sweet bird call in amongst all of the violence and pain that was all that now remained of the forests of JiangXi. |
