Ending the Capship Issue(and more) - Linkus - 06-10-2008 There are more of them than you. Argue if you want but when it comes down to it, Might Makes Right in Freelancer. Official factions have been made official by the community. If the Independant owners of ANY ship fail to RP properly in a faction ship, then it's alright for the faction to hunt them down. Disco has things quite strange at the moment. You have official factions with proper ranks etc but they are not backed fully by the Admins. IE they are not concrete. If you want to disobey the LSF and still say you are one, then you can. THat is the issue. There is no point argueing about Independants or Factions when you have freedoms that directly interfere with each other. Also, this arguement will never be settled. Some will still think factions are evillll!!!!!! and some will still think Independants are evilllll!!!!!!!! Quote:No not at all. The BAF faction leader simply asked us to register ships. I did so. They asked nicely. The Outcasts are one of the favourite factions in Freelancer. When you have Outcast Battleships appearing in New York then you have a problem (Though it can be resolved by a bomber or two). You do not see BAF battleships appearing in NY though. Bretonia has few enough people as it is, if the BAF had imposed restrictions they would've probably had a few less (Though the people who go to Bretonia are usually the more RP heavy people anyway) If you had refused the BAF request then they would've killed you in the end. Outcasts just have to do it regularly. Ending the Capship Issue(and more) - Reverend Del - 06-10-2008 So it's gone from registration is evil, to if you ask nicely we'll sign up? Well that solves that probem then, just need folks to re-write their registration policies. The next person to call me a power mongering bstard is going to get hurt. All the power I have is to lead a bunch of folks around who happen to want to pretend to fly the same pixel ships as me, believe it or not if I started going on a power trip most of these folks would laugh at me and install someone else as leader. Most of us don't lead our factions by domination, but by general consensus. So when I talk about indy cap ships from a Rogue perspective you can bet your ass that I have at least seven other folks who agree with me and don't feel the need to post because what they want to say has been said. The fact that this discussion is still going on is laughable. You can argue against it as much as you like, but frankly it's not going away. Either deal with it in a sensible RP fashion or pick something else to fly. These rules are in RP, set by governments, deal with them in RP. Don't just shout how you're being persecuted when frankly it ain't nothing of the sort. Ending the Capship Issue(and more) - Eppy - 06-10-2008 The reason Outcast registration is a Join-or-Die method is beacause people suck and don't bother registering nicely. We have the single most popular destroyer in the game and one of the most popular Battleships (which nobody seems to be able to find these days...mehehehehe...). Do you honestly expect every idiot noob who thinks he's all that to come out and lawl his way into my polite little registration thread? I haz better solution: THAT'll teach em to capwhore and spam system chat. Ending the Capship Issue(and more) - n00bl3t - 06-10-2008 ' Wrote:What makes you think that they know about vulnerabilities of the capital ships they bought? There is no sticker on it saying so. Assumption of "everyone knowing this" is far-fetching and missing entirely. Ship looks big? Yes. Lots of turrets? Yes. Lots of armor? Yes. Pump the engines! Firepower is here! So there you have it. Until it's a bomber wing coming at attack vector they're feeling quite well about their safety. A couple of fighters might not pose a threat, one bomber most likely not pose a threat as well, a smaller capital ship most likely not either. Of course if it's someone of same ship class but hostile well that does look like an invitation to a good fight then! And then need for more firepower! Bring it on in full cerberus loadout, fairly good loadout might I add, and a very good indication of a certain quality of a pilot behind them. Makes sense. Well the players who are on this forum that are arguing against restriction know, and as the statement was aimed at Akumabito and implying that he did not know, I responded. ' Wrote:Well, one thing that can be ascertained by this thread is that peaceful registrations are more likely to be successful than ... dare I say it, hostile ones. Peaceful registrations that have no prerequisites or ultimatums. Such as a page of RP, register or die, etc. Ships sold in guard systems are the only ones that factions can dream about claiming exclusive rights to. I still don't think that should be the case though. ' Wrote:There are more of them than you. Argue if you want but when it comes down to it, Might Makes Right in Freelancer. Only if they fail to RP right? Not if they fail to register. Not if they fail to have written RP on the forums. Done. ' Wrote:So it's gone from registration is evil, to if you ask nicely we'll sign up? Well that solves that probem then, just need folks to re-write their registration policies. It's gone to: don't set down impositions on RP. If a person RP's it's fine. If they don't, get them sanctioned. That's it. As for me registering on the BAF forum, the thread was opened politely and I am willing to follow orders by the official BAF faction to an extent, because from what I have seen they have not shown a lust for power along with other things. Also, there was no compulsion or ultimatum to register in order to fly a capship, there was no "you need written RP on the forum", there was no register or we bomber-whore you, etc. Ending the Capship Issue(and more) - Robert.Fitzgerald - 06-10-2008 Quote:Ships sold in guard systems are the only ones that factions can dream about claiming exclusive rights to. I still don't think that should be the case though. If I buy a house, can anyone just come in and take stuff from it? Not without my permission, no. Unless they want to steal it. In that case, I'll be getting the police ((faction members)) onto them. Quote:It's gone to: don't set down impositions on RP. If a person RP's it's fine. If they don't, get them sanctioned. That's it. The problem with this is, people can roleplay in completely different ways. However, roleplay can be bad and inconsistent. Do you think a Red Hessian Cruiser hiding in Bretonnia would be sanctioned on the spot? How about an Outcast wanting to be chummy with the Hogosha in his Destroyer, or a mercenary using a Nomad ship? Another case is when roleplay trods over known and accepted conventions. It's unlikely that these roleplayers will be sanctioned for it, and the assumption that OORP players need to be punished and the rest to be free is illogical. Not all OORP players are caught, nor are they all sanctioned. Restrictions like these try to make up for this fact by making everyone register. The Australian Military for instance, would keep details and information for every piece of hardware that they possess. If someone was found with military hardware without a good reason would get in a lot of trouble... The "forum RP" requirements for certain ship restrictions exist so the official factions can: a) check over the RP and make sure it isn't silly/inconsistent/plain excuse for a ship b) see an example of the captains exemplary RP (if that is the case) and decide if he is worthy or not. There's no real point in a restriction, if any OORP player can log onto the forums once, post a few lines of an excuse and go back to their ways. Ending the Capship Issue(and more) - Exsiled_one - 06-10-2008 I don't know why do you defend the capital ship purchase from the interdependent side. You must understand the faction point of view here people. Here's the deal, as I said it already. It's the education of the players on what he can and what he cannot do in space. A question that I know answer to is next: Would faction leaders ever stop anyone from getting a capital ship for them if they knew that the said person would act with it as the faction leader would act himself? Ofcourse they would! They'ld even cover some cost just to give him a hand in everything. But here's the real issues. The people are either bored, or ignorant or both and main thing they want to do is attack another nation, or better yet, that distant nation that's always out of their reach. Why? Because of several reasons. There's always new people there, they are armed as well and our mentioned player wants to feel powerful. He wants to beat them, stand on their wrecks and laugh and then leave, because he's a competitor looking for fun and challenges. Thats why he needs a big ship tho, he can't possibly fight all those people alone, can he? Ofcourse he can't. So whats the plan? Trade routes? diamonds new berlin? Okay sure, I'll sacrifice a week and then I'll have fun. And he does that, and then the faction problem starts, but actually it has started long time before that point. There was a 101st in omega 5 today, and I was messing around in Gamma, being an only faction corsair there I was either explaining things to people or giving some tips on combat (0.o i know, me?? combat..) but the thing is I rounded them up, and got my bomber ready. Half way to omega 41 hole, the 101st dissapeared and we stopped. Guess what was first thing out of their mouth? This is how the conversation went: a: "he logged off" b: "yeah" me: "oh well.." a: "lets invade liberty" b: silence c, d: "yeah" me: "corsairs can't invade liberty" a: "yes they can" b: "yeah" c: "why not" me: "its out of our reach, and actually the navy there takes screenshots of corsairs attacking the liberty and gives the pictures to the corsair Factions and then TBH or benitez come and slap those corsairs around the gama" a,b,c: "lol" d: "what?" a: "what can we invade?" me: "malta:)" a: "malta?" i kinda gave up here and told them to pvp each other for practice. and you know what, I don't really blame them, they were all in fighter ships and eager for some combat, because they know they'll have problems in capships but in fighters they expect -some- action. So I kinda think we failed our point somewhere along the lines of this beautiful education attempt. I suggest an brief history lesson, brief nation state of mind, brief enemies list, brief laws list, extended ZOI list and extended duties list. When you explain all those to the said individual, only thing left to do when he fails is to blow him up. Please, tell me, what happened to the HMS-Churchill? I met it <strike>quite recently</strike> yesterday (EDITED: it is important to note that it was while these discussions were already taking place). You just taunted me to come and kill you for being a bad indie in a capital ship, so I ignored you. I do want to believe you usually roleplay the ship. I won't believe you were mistreated by the QCRF until you at least say what happened. A proof would also be nice, but what I am asking now is just something better than the vague statement of being mistreated. But since you personaly wrote something about me and made me look incompetant , I think it's only natural for me to respond. What can a VHF do against a BS 1v1 ? WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK THE VHF SHOULD BE ALBE TO DO ? Kill or even harm to BATTLESHIP ? No , that is not pisible and the fact that a VHF cannot destroy a BS is CORRECT RP. Thats how it should be. But is it correct RP that the BS can NEVER destroy that VHF ? The fighter can ALWAYS AWAYS just fly around the BS and "accidently" bump him and NEVER even get it's shields down. And if you realy must know , many if not all the BS admiral/captains/what ever , have their own personal ship to fly and RP with , wich is a fighter. Don't think you are right just because you hate capitals. That doesn't make you right in anyway , it's make's you just another bomber whore , who "lolz" "I pwnz the BS" , nothing more. Ending the Capship Issue(and more) - Dennis Jameson - 06-10-2008 [off topic] Let it be known that i wish to have Epyons unholy offspring! [/off topic] And seriously, is this a discussion, or is it yet another thread trolled to hell and back by means of the flawed arguments and crummy logic of one Akuma? IF you want to have your little "rogue" capship then expect to be killed... ALOT. And as for ending the cap "whoreage" problem... Well, there is no viable solution. The regulations is all one can really do, cause regulations make sense RP wise and IT IS a roleplaying server at the end of the day. Now let's all hug, kiss, breed to one another and then eat, and breed some more... What? You don't want to breed? Bah. Fine, just stop this madness! ![]() Now i've done it... |
