' Wrote:Its not that bad! I play in both Dead and peak time of the server. 70-110 for low, and 150-180 for the peak. But just maybe 80-30 players do RP. Also dont ask for RP While player owned stations take whole time for Itself.

Thats It!
70-110 isn't downtime for the server.

Downtime is when it gets to about 40.

And most of those people are only on hunting weapons/Nomad powercells.

That's another issue, is the grind, IMHO, for certain objects. While I like how it was balanced so they're difficult to get, I feel like a lot of things are turning into more of an MMO style grind fest than any form of actual roleplay except for on the forums themselves.

It's because Discovery has taken a turn toward the EVE model. You don't grind for skills, but you grind for money instead. The problem with that is that the prices are by-and-large arbitrary, the only thing that fluctuates (or more accurately, inflates because everybody has too much money) are the prices of player-made objects. Cloaking devices, jump drives, modules, all that fancy stuff that's really only there to brag about.

It feels like we're forgetting the Rule of Fun.

Why would anyone bother to join a faction or bother to make a faction when they can have their ships, their guns, their ID, their IFF, and not ever have any responsibility to that faction., it's as we in the dice roleplay world call, "Munchkin Heaven."

Does anyone remember the Ori? Zoner tech, zoner ships, Zoner ID Zoner IFF. Blew the hell out of anyone and everyone to mirror the Stargate theme. Oh they died.

Now! We have tons of Indy Zoner dreads, cruisers and carriers flying all over the place in house space and where ever they please doing the exact same thing. Oh but they are Independents. Problem solved! And for some god damn reason, we're just dandy with it! And -just- incase someone tossed my Zoner carrier into that mix, I went through the Roleplay fire of making damn sure the Zoners knew exactly who and what that carrier was to be used for. If I screw up in that ship, Zoners know exactly whos door to knock on. These Indys have not a care in the damn world who they tick off.

House governments are to blame as well. Rheinland started "talking" to a Zoner and Bretionia independent Battleship making a base in a Rheinland system and did not a damn thing about it. This is Rheinland we're talking about. Something has fundimentally when off the wall. I cannot even tell the parts of the Rheinland faction any more. I mean we were taking orders from an untagged, ubiquitously named independent Rheinland battleship, helping the other independent Zoner and bretionia indys. Really? I've been in Rheinland, roleplaying the last 2 years and I have no flipping clue whos who.

What could -another- faction help to prove or benefit Disco if the existing ones are all screwed up?

It's summer (at least in the northern hemisphere).
Many schools just finished their final exams.
The hype around the new version has decreased.
The base hype + the activity linked to it is gone
It's a 10 year old game.
It's a game that makes the beginning hard for newbies (many rules, bad equipment, no skill against rule experts with good equipment and skill)
Gameplay seems to move away from roleplay (in which everybody can participate) towards pvp (where new players have no chance)

And yes, there are some factions that occupy siminar roleplay concepts. Merging rather similar factions has already taken place.

we need a few factions, with a load of members,

not a load of factions, with a few members.

to acheive this, i suggest

1. that if you want to play factionlancer and set up a new faction, then you need to prove membership of at least one/two/a few official npc-factions.

2. that the number of players required for a faction to maintain officiality is increased

I havent read every page so if this has been said im sorry.

The fact that in every official faction here are basically the
same players and in every skype channel are basically the same players,
makes it seem to the good indies out there, and yes there are many, that
you need to be in the clique and little boys club to be invited or accepted
into one of these factions.

So the majority that i know do not have any desire to join these <strike>cliques</strike> factions.

I think if you were only allowed to be in 1 official faction or factions that are not enemies,
it would be more appealing to alot of people that would like the red vs black side of it
with none of this metagaming of ohh look so and so is on his ship ...lets swap
chars and attack them. And you give me their info from their skype so we can gank them etc etc.

Most wont agree with this but its what would make me want to join an official faction, and many
others i know feel the same way.

Anyway they are my thoughts and not ment to be taken as an attack against anyone here.
