Grumpily, Lucie poked the incoming mail icon with one finger, bringing up the newly received application for review. She hated dealing with menial paperwork like this, preferring to send authoritative, grand transmissions that made her feel all powerful and imposing, but she didn't trust anyone else to do it properly. The chaff had to be weeded out before they wasted Royal francs on repairing exploded Lynxes, after all.
Glancing over the application, Lucie was delighted to note that he'd answered the Grand Maréchal question incorrectly, just like the applicant before him. That would rub Ansel up the wrong way. She made a mental note to forward that section of the application to him, perhaps with a mocking smiley face or two attached. Petty, yes, but she was still sore that Charbonneau had been made Maréchal over her. He never even showed up to conference meetings, for goodness' sake.
Aside from getting the Grand Maréchal question wrong (which was a bonus anyway, as far as she was concerned), the rest of the application was as standard and clean-cut as she could have hoped for. Some fresh-faced graduate, probably with high marks in all the theory and not much expertise to speak of in areas that were actually important, looking to die for his country. He probably would, too, but that wasn't something that they put on the recruitment posters. Lucie didn't really care what happened to him, but everything was in order.
Yawning, she sent a standard acceptance message to the new Aspirant and headed off to get some more coffee.

Smoke swirled around the ceiling lighting in Lucie's cabin, giving the whole room the feel of a low-budget movie set. "Ne Fumez Pas!", ordered the wall-mounted sign, without any success whatsoever. Indeed, Lucie had been filling the room with smoke for a good hour or two now. Finally, the Toulouse - her "command corvette", as she liked to call it - had been prepared and flown out to the Guillestre, and now she could administrate things her way. This included chain-smoking fine New Parisian cigars, because there was now nobody to tell her that she couldn't. Not even her doctor; she considered the médecin's lectures as little more than advisory, when she even bothered to listen to him.
Lucie blew smoke at the screen, watching as the pixels shimmered in response. Despite her newly luxurious surroundings, she still had work to be getting on with. Recruitment in particular appeared to be stacking up, so she opened the appropriate channel and began processing...
Three cigars and as many glasses of wine later, Lucie was finished. Two of the applications had given her no trouble - one was totally fine, the other was borderline but would just about do - but the third had sent her on a browsing spree. Apparently, Monsieur Josse had a criminal record of sorts. Something to do with Planet Chateauroux, several hundred complains regarding public indecency, and a goat. Even after an extensive search, Lucie couldn't find more details than that. She wasn't sure she wanted to, either. At the very least, what little she had been able to dig out was more than enough to disqualify him. And, frankly, to disgust her as well. Ew.

Lucie squinted at the newly-played card, which was currently occupying most of her computer screen. The Général was busy playing an online card game, and things were not going well.
"Target vessel loses half of its - merde." she muttered, watching her newly-weakened Obstinate explode as a Crecy wiped it off the board. She would have to play both her Cougars a turn early now or risk losing, and that was no good with three Nyxes and an ace Templar on the opponent's side of the field.
Ba-ding went the message notification, interrupting her game and alerting her to the new application nestling in her inbox. For the first time, she was actually glad to see a new applicant. This one, at least, had managed to find the correct neural net address, unlike certain others.
Unfortunately, upon actually reading the transmission, the beginnings of her good mood swiftly evaporated. If there had been anyone else in Lucie's office, they would have noticed a temperature drop of at least a few degrees. There was so much wrong with this application, she didn't even know where to begin. It made her very angry.
Glaring at the screen as if it was the computer's fault, she hammered out the most terse denial she possibly could before closing the window in contempt.
