RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 08-02-2014

Doc smiled as he pointed out a heard of deer near the treelines in a clearing. As the sun was now up, they were looking for cover.
"They feed in fields mostly by night when predators aren't as numerous," he explained, "by day, they take to the woods." He then looked out with a set of binoculars. As he handed them to Ashlea to see for herself, he explained, "mostly juveniles and females so we'll leave them be. It's the big buck or the larger animals we seek."

They would continue. Doc cracked the cap on his canteen to keep his fluids in good shape. They made small talk as they traveled. Then, off in the distance a short time later, he saw something. He took back the binoculars to look and began to smirk.
"Zoner resistance fighters," he said quietly, "they probably wouldn't bother us but I have to wonder where they're going to hit."

As of yet, they hadn't seen Doc and Ashlea. Doc handed the binos back to Ashlea and he drew his larger rifle with the scope as he watched them through it.
"They're probably after an LPI station somewhere," he softly said, "although it's a long way from here.....unless they're in hiding after doing so."

She nodded, watching the deer for a moment before catching up to him. "It sounds like they have the right idea..... The trees will make it harder for to spot them I would assume."

She gave him back the binoculars and frowned slightly, she was quiet, but the concern was still notable in her voice. "Zoner resistance fighters?" She took the binoculars back and watched them, shaking her head she lowered the binoculars and looked at Doc. "That probably doesn't sound too promising you know, John."

She didn't know the planet, so she wasn't sure where the nearest LPI outposts would be, or anything was for that matter. She wasn't as worried by this as she thought she might have been, and instead began to watch them through the binoculars again "What do they fight for?" she asked quietly.

As they watched, he told the history of Erie, how it was discovered and settled by Zoners.
"It all took place before I was around," he explained quietly, "Zoners had convoys enough to supply the planet and security enough to keep the flow of goods coming. But there were issues with Rogue and Xeno raiders and someone decided to ask the Liberty government for assistance. They built a trade lane and wanted control not just of Erie but of the system. Well, Zoners largely got the planet but Pennsylvania now belongs to Liberty."

"The resistance started shortly after," he continued, "most weren't happy with the arrangement nor do I blame them so you have resistance fighters making attacks on LPI assets." He then smiled, "I figured that would meet your approval. I don't interfere with them as they don't know I'm out here."

He then looked for a different route so as not to disturb them. It was still close to the lake but a turn away from them. Before long, they were out of site and the big game animals weren't far.

She nodded, the story interested her and she understood why they were doing this. After all, it was no different to the Rogues defending their homes in Cassini. At least the Rogue homes haven't had another group come through and try to take it over. She spoke quietly, sharing what was on her mind, just loud enough for Doc to catch what was being said. "It doesn't matter if I approve. If they believe what they are doing is right, if they believe it will provide their families a better future, that is all that really matters. Approval of others or not." She smiled slightly as they carried on down the different path.

She noticed a willow tree off the track off on the edge of the lake and smiled, remembering sometime she had long since stopped thinking about. Her favorite place to relax before she was forced from her home was under the willow. It was quiet, peaceful - the perfect place to read, hidden away from society where she could loose herself in the story.

It didn't take long until there was movement in the trees around them again. She rested her hand on the butt of her rifle.

Doc took a look into the trees. Squirrels frolicked about, playing and chasing one another. "You have good taste," he stated, "willows are nice indeed."

He had noticed her lost in thought for a few moments. He let her have the moment. Maybe it was something that he could help with, maybe it wasn't. Regardless, they were away from the problems of the universe.

As she reflected, he took another sip of water from his canteen and even took a stick of smoked meat to chew on, offering her one as well.

"Shall we continue?"

She took the stick of smoked meat and thanked him. She smiled at a thought she had, shaking her head slightly. Eventually she confessed "I've been toying with the idea of leaving the Rogues for a while." It sounded as if there was more to that thought, but she didn't continue. Instead she changed the topic of conversation, it wasn't obvious as to whether it was intentional or not.

"So, John. Tell me something I don't know about you." She was genuinely interested in hearing something about him. Hearing him speak put her at ease, and she wanted to know more about him. She sipped at the water and hoped he would share something more with her.

After a while, they reached the next clearing. She stopped on the edge of the treeline again and looked out across to the other side. Quietly commenting on the peacefulness of the area, how undisturbed it was. "It's different, seeing somewhere that humans haven't destroyed.... I miss it."

For a moment, the only sounds were those of a light breeze and the soft thump of the horse's hooves in the ground as they walked side by side. Doc looked at Ashlea for a moment with a light smile then turned his head back with a light laugh, tipping his head back, "Tell you something about me that you don't know."
He looked forward again thinking, "I'm so predictable. Everyone knows most everything about me."

He paused again as they rode. It was as if he was day dreaming as he was speaking. He was clear in thought and projection but his forward look made it seem as if he was zoned out. He was trying to think of something that she didn't know. He didn't know if she knew that he was married before and had kids but he didn't want to break the mood. He was enjoying being around her and each time he looked at her, he found himself liking her even more. The breeze would blow her hair just right and he found it a bit comical that she was slightly embarrassed that she would "hide herself" whenever he would take notice of her. Still, the truth was something few used and it made it even more valuable and she deserved nothing less.

He then looked over at her again and gave a soft smile, "You may or may not know this but........I was married....to a Kusari woman." He sighed, "I wanted to keep this positive but I figured that you should at least know."

They continued riding. Doc wasn't sure what to expect next.

She hadn't noticed her reaction to him taking notice of her. After he explained he had been married she was quiet for some time, thinking about this. Her mind began to wander and Buster crossed her thoughts. Trying to keep her mind on topic she had expected him to have had relationships before, he was too good of a man to not have.

She nods as she remembers the picture she had found. "The woman in the photo." She looked across at Doc, the smile was gone, but she didn't look upset "That was her?" She had left the picture face up on top of the set of draws it had been hidden in, but she wasn't sure if he had seen it there.

RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 08-05-2014

Doc looked at her for a moment with a long face when she asked him about her. He turned back, nodding a bit shamefully. He looked forward again as they continued riding, "You asked back at Foster what I am hiding. Now you know."
He was silent for another moment. He didn't want to praise her too much, not that she didn't deserve it but because he didn't want to upstage Ashlea. But, honesty still was his best policy and it was a chance to clear his conscience a bit.

"Her name is Midori," he said somewhat dejectedly, "she gave me three great kids. Problem was, I was always to busy. TAZ, Med Force, research and whatever diplomatic problem came along, She couldn't take it anymore and left back to Honshu." He sighed, "I thought by stepping down from TAZ leadership and therefore the diplomacy that things would get better but, it didn't help. She wanted another child but I had advised against it medically."
He went silent a moment as the demon he was letting go hung about him for a moment. He finally took another deep breath, "We tried to work it out but I guess I hurt her too much. She took her and the kids to Honshu on a shuttle. She even gave me back her Conference which is still back on Canaria."

A somber feeling of relief fell over him as he finally looked back at Ashlea, "I enjoyed being married. I enjoy being a parent. Maybe one day I'll have another chance. Maybe thats why I never got rid of the pictures. I'm not sure what else there is in that room from my past."

RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 08-05-2014

Ashlea smiled slightly, admitting what she had found. "Old photos... That is all I have noticed..." The pictures didn't bother her. She wondered if they should. She was worried he would be upset with her for finding these. Hoping he would understand why she had looked through the room before settling in.

"John..." She began before pausing a moment, trying to think how to word what she was wanting to say correctly. "There is nothing wrong with having a past. You shouldn't regret it." Pulling her horse to a halt she paused for another moment before continuing "You stepped down, tried to fix things..." She sighed, seeing him like this saddened her. "You both did. This was through no fault of either of you. It just wasn't meant to be at that time..." She knew her words were unlikely to be making things any better and because of this she fell silent.

She was a short distance behind Doc and her horse didn't want to be left behind. "Alright.... Come on then." she mumbled, too quiet for him to hear as the horse took a step forward. "There will be another chance for you... I don't doubt that for a second.... You are a good man - any woman would be lucky to have you."
