a solution to excessive multicomponent bases is one custom base out of one model. - that limits the complexity a little - but not much - since the freelancer limit in disco is around 40.000 ( yea - freeworlds bloated it up to over 100.000 i think - but we are not freeworlds )

Swap "model" with this perhaps?

PS: As for Aland posted int he previous page, its components numbers will be shrunk from what it was posted in the dev log time ago, not sure about Gallia.

That would make more sense honestly.

I voted no, would rather have the devs work on more important matters with their time.

Swapping it with Scarborough would be quite reasonable actually.

Forever alone...
As Jinx has said, it's a few minutes work when the models/components are already in the game.

RE: Base Model Improvement: Southampon Shipyard - Jinx - 06-11-2013

to back up what devs do with their time

dev time is no net time. that means - that you do not get 100% dev time - and subtract time for modelling, ID cards, balance etc separately. why is that important?

when you do not make models - it does not mean that the modeller is suddenly doing balance works. - it means that the modeller is not doing anything for the most part.

same applies to the people that scream "don t make new models - it takes away from making replacements of imports" - that also does not work. just cause one does not make a new model does not mean one works on an import instead - it comes down to creativity and ideas for something.

in terms of the station.

stations are not that difficult - if you want to keep to vanilla levels - your usual station is a fairly unimpressive model. it is extremely simple - beams, boxes and the occasional pencake cylinder.

what is MUCH more important is the immersion of the station. - for example - the kusari arch is considered one of the modern wonders of architecture ( thats why we ignore the 101 guard system that has the same - cause in terms of lore - that must not exist ) - so whatever SHS is meant to look like is primarily a matter that concerns the "story devs" and not so much the modellers. we modellers can make you a custom station that looks like a palace made of gold and platinum with statues and fancy things. - also the size of a planet. but it should fit in... and thats where the story dev(s) kick in and say "no - it cannot look like that - it must be like this.... "

What needs to be done is stop posting new models images and or imports for show-off in the forums. It needs to be secreted till the dev members themselves agree with the model and implement the model in the game - get a 100% completion, THEN show it to the community. Keep it up with this "I don't like the fins..", "model doesn't look to scale" etc etc -- The game won't move further at this rate.

Is what most games do eitherway. "Oh hey, we got a new model coming in! We will show it after we are done." *Post Pictures* "Here it is!" -- Community is amazed/frowned. Eitherway, someone will use it and most ships in this game aren't even in use. So I really don't see the sense of continuing posting images of new stuff - IT WILL BE TRASHED 85% OF THE TIME.

Unless, of course you are making some practice and posting images to get feedback and doing a proper job to get a better experience.

Well none of us would want SHS to looks like Aland or Rambouilette Shipyard cuz their models have too many parts.

So if that is possible we can request a New "single" model for the base or simply change the current one with something else.

Here I will point at Ryummel's idea to replace the SHS model with Scarborough Station model. Both bases share similar "architectures" and SBS looks like an improved SHS (without the missing central dry dock which can be added to fit properly).
Perhaps that can be an option? Simply to change the models? In that way we gona have 2 bases similar to SBS and SHS gona look much more better.

RE: Base Model Improvement: Southampon Shipyard - Sabru - 06-12-2013

I think giving it a new drydock that gives the idea that work is actually being doing would give it a better feel.
