RE: What Will Happen when Star Citizen Comes out - Swallow - 07-02-2013 I'll be here till the end. Once it ends, I'll continue my modelling practice and my RP practice in a forum-RPG. RE: What Will Happen when Star Citizen Comes out - Narcotic - 07-02-2013 When it's out, I'll buy it and hope that it'd even run on my PC. Then first I'll check out what this promised "spaceship" and "very special equipment package" is about. ![]() And then I'll see if the game is roleplay compitable and how the community will be, or if there'll be even private/open RP servers. Freelancer DIscovery or Star Citizen Discovery. ![]() In the end I'll stick to Discovery either way. Well I did not know that. RE: What Will Happen when Star Citizen Comes out - Luke. - 07-02-2013 I'd miss the stories and lore behind Freelancer and Disco...and my computer probably can't run it. RE: What Will Happen when Star Citizen Comes out - Sarawr!? - 07-02-2013 I think what keeps a lot of us here, is the RP. Like or not, there really aren't any other successful sci-fi Roleplaying communities out there, set in an environment like Disco/FL, and I think that's a part of the reason that Discovery survived so long. If there turns out to be widespread Roleplaying, and roleplay friendly attitudes in Star Citizen, that will likely lure a lot of the Disco players in, but I'm not sure SC will "Kill" Disco. I'm certainly going to check Star Citizen out, once I have a computer capable of running it, but I'll likely remain on Disco as well, and if a Disco RP server pops up on Star Citizen...well, I'll probably poke my head in and see what's what. RE: What Will Happen when Star Citizen Comes out - Omi - 07-02-2013 I really doubt it will kill Disco, for the same reason Guild Wars 2 barely put a dent in the juggernaut that is WoW - people get invested in things; all the time they spent grinding levels, raiding and capturing flags in Warsong Gulch keeps them attached to the game. All the lore, areas, etc. are familiar, and they probably have friends playing it too. I think the same'll apply for disco. All the time spent hammering out RP on forums and in-game, all the trade routes ran to fund X project or Y ship, all that will probably keep people bouncing back for a long time to come, regardless of just how "next-gen" Star Citizen is. That said, I'd be happy to be proven wrong and have Star Citizen be absolutely everything I've ever wanted in a spaceship game ever, but I think it's being overhyped in a lot of ways. RE: What Will Happen when Star Citizen Comes out - SMGSterlin - 07-02-2013 Depends. If Star Citizen becomes pay to play, then I won't bother with it. If it's a free to play game, then I'll play it for a while, but it will probably either be really limited for the free to play, or it will be full access for free to plays, and eventually the haxors will come in and ruin the game, like they do with all F2P games. RE: What Will Happen when Star Citizen Comes out - Dusty Lens - 07-02-2013 Note that your golden ticket says "Upon purchase of" a spaceship. Not "when I hand you a spaceship I'll also hand you some loot, you stoner you." the contents of the GTs hasn't been officially announced yet, but it has been heavily implied that it'll be a skin or some token in game item. Flight suit with a badge/etc. As to what'll become of disco? I imagine that the server will continue to serve as a refuge for both persons who maintain computer rigs that aren't up to the task of managing more contemporary games and those who feel that their principle enjoyment is derived from maintaining long sought positions of authority. Within SC itself I'm sure we'll see at least a solid dozen startup "Discovery" servers initiated by persons who wish to sit in a high chair but are otherwise uncertain about moving forward with development, ala Tenacity. People looking for semi-RP environments like Discovery, should they play, will possibly migrate towards player squadrons that promise to maintain the same. Valinor Deep Space/Sanctuary Republic and so on while waiting to see if a legitimate private server pops up. Likely losing interest in a private server with its drama and development issues in favor of the larger persistent universe. Golden Ticket[/quote Wrote:I warmly shake your hand! Upon purchase of a Robert Industry Spaceship, I do invite you to a private showing of my next blablabla... Or is it a trick? Oh, and if it's going to be a pay2play game I (and hopefully all the true Freelancer/Wing Commander veterans) will puke and turn my (their) back(s) on Chris. I mean... getting 12 millions pledged and making a pay2play game out of it? That's crime. But since they already sell ships for 1200 USD (before the game is even finished), it tells me that it is going to be p2p. RE: What Will Happen when Star Citizen Comes out - Luke. - 07-02-2013 If it's p2p I will puke in disgust and hide behind my Freelancer disk forever. |
