You could always stay independent but work together in packs while seeing how well your RP fits into the Disco Universe.
That would give you some first hand experience with the differences in Disco and your old server. Then you could learn from that and incorporate any needed changes into your RP or storyline before trying to form a new faction.

Some here have said to stay independant. Others have said to join a faction. I say that the choice is really up to you, whether you think a faction would fit you better, or whether you'd rather be on your own. I have some characters in factions, others that are independents. It really is up to you, but always realize that the two are not mutually exclusive. A faction will give you support and a good team to work with, so I would recommend at least trying one out. Factions do give you a good understanding of what's going on, and a solid role to play, but joining one isn't necessary to have a good time here. Whatever you decide to do, good luck with it and have fun. See you in space;)
