Very interesting post indeed. Even though as Prowler said before, it would probably need way more admins to handle everything they have to so that it's somewhat "sane".

Quote:I bet, 90% of those who put their name into the hat, don't really want to become admin, but just want to test their popularity and eligibility. Though, I hope there'll be some decent people amongst them.

I put my name because of 2 reasons.
1: I have somewhat annoying amount of excess time that I don't always use.
2: I want to atleast help this mod somewhat, even if it is by applying to a staff position.
Be it admin or moderator. Or none.

Even if I don't get there, which is most likely. I'll keep playing anyways. And helping if asked for.

But that was a huge wall of text Jinx.. Daum.

Oh I can make similar topic about the Devs. Admins are quite irrelevant actually- they do only day-to day business. The problems come from other sources.
Good example comes in my mind about turret steering bombers that should not turret steer and that were fixed in 4.86 beta but then by mistake got the ability again and somehow none bothered to fix it.

Quote:Most people who apply for an admin position, have no clue how it is like, and they just seek the power, respect and popularity which some people can't achieve in reality.

This. I fully agree with you. While I did throw my name in, it's not strictly for a Admin tole, but to genuinely help either in a mod role or Admin role. It's not easy, it is work. But such is needed for a mod to survive, especially with one that has gone through so many changes/people/etc. I love this mod, having left and come back, and would be more than willing to devote time to help keep it alive.

Anyway, without turning this into a "This is why I should be considered!", to touch on some of Jinx's posts, having specific duties for certain admins sounds like a good idea, but as Prowler said, with the amount there is involved with Reports/SRPs/etc, it would be hard to have that. Perhaps maybe having a rotation. A group or specific people will handle something for a bit, then switch. This could be of benefit so admins don't become stagnant in specific roles.

Now this comes from a more ignorant viewpoint in regards to the day to day operations of an admin, but just a thought to reiterate/expand on what Jinx said.

Also, looking at the Admin/Moderator list, is perhaps have more mods than admins. That would allow the Admins, when they get burnt out or want to retire so to speak, they have a large pool of people from the Mod team to pick from. The thought would be, people apply for a moderator position. And perhaps the Admins give more responsibility to the Mods. That allows Mods to be "Admins in training", being molded for the job should they be selected.

Again to reiterate, I don't know what all the duties of the Mods/Admins are. Perhaps this is already in place, and I am beating a dead horse. But, just my two cents.

I would simply ease the admin's a little and let the mods have the sanction sections ( i know jens will be pissed ;D ) - But it will give them more room to breath. ~ Much like corporation, you must have a structure and people doing other things to help out.
