RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. So come here and vote on this poll. - Moberg - 08-09-2013 All are doing RP, you can't really say "This one roleplays better". The first one is including his character name The second one doesn't, which is no 'bad rp' in my opinion. The third one just lacks grammar, pronounciation and punctuation. However, all of them do the 'same' RP basically, the only difference is how they write it. /edit So, the quality is the same, to some extent that is based on how the player that reads it views it. For some it is just more attractive and especially easier to read when the grammar is correct. If you have to 'translate' the sentence into correct english to understand it then it can become annoying to read and simply unattractive. The potential differs though, because most players assume that bad grammar equals bad roleplay. This can be true, if the player lacks vocabulary to express his roleplay in a way he desired, and that could prevent him from executing the roleplay "correctly." In most cases though, this is not the case. A lot of players that I have met that had bad grammar (now referring back to the third LNS) had extremely brilliant and enjoyable roleplay than for example the first LNS. Concluding, my opinion is that in most cases the knowledge of the English language and RP quality / potential are not related. However, you shouldn't be doing scanning in battleships or carriers anyway. Maybe in a cruiser if you're trying to block a jumpgate off or smth like that RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. Regardless of writing style and grammar, none of them are doin' it right. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. And I'd say the first one did it with the best quality, it also has the most potential because it is the most attractive out of all those roleplays. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. While it does not affect the quality of the player itself in most cases I encountered, it affects how likely others are going to be responsive to it. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. Quite redundant to my mind. Besides what Kazinsal said: (08-09-2013, 09:11 AM)Kazinsal Wrote: All three of them are trying to do police work in high-value military capital ships. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. So come here and vote on this poll. - sindroms - 08-09-2013 The policing thing, please do not take note of it. It is the line I told them to write out in their own style, so I am to blame for that one. Let us focus on your individual reaction and assumptions you have of the player depending on how they typed it out. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. However, RP should not be in form, but in heart. So all 3 options are acceptable. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. So come here and vote on this poll. - sindroms - 08-09-2013 Oh right. The thing about "LN acting like police" is invalid, because there are not enough server active players to actually fill both roles. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. So come here and vote on this poll. - Stoat - 08-09-2013 They all say the same thing, the only difference is how it is written. Not possible to say whether one is better than the other from an RP perspective because RP is linear. You'd need the entirety of the encounter to be able to judge that. As far as best spelling/grammar goes, well, I guess no. 1 gets that because he's specifying a character that is speaking, rather than it being just the ship. The assumption of most native English speakers would, I assume, be that no. 3 is the worst because of the use of textspeak and lack of punctuation. I'd say that those with good english skills would say the same. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test.
