40 Day Account Deletion Too Short? - mwerte - 07-19-2008

I have VERY limited ingame activity and 40 days is still enough for me. Heck, 30 days is what I usually log in by without any problems.

40 Day Account Deletion Too Short? - Magoo! - 07-19-2008

The only real problem I have is me checking on my bant account every 2 days or so to check its status (banned or unbanned) and then coming back from a 21 day trip (I checked the day before I left) to find my 40 million credit Firefly, my 2 million armored TP which I had a Nomad Power Cell which I bought for 30 mill (Yay for RP prices. Who buys alien artifacts which create gravity wells and suck in the mass from a nearby sun to build stuff for only 2 mill?), my character whom I wrote 51 pages of bio for (in Word, double spaced, 12 Times New Roman font) (Lyca), and some other character (obviously menial if I don't remember).

And non of my characters had 50 mill to recover I don't think.

In that regard I am VERY angry with the system.

So yes. Since clearly my account wasn't frozen during a 3 and a half month ban in which a certain admin after PMing the day after the ban said, "Oh, mishap on your friend's part? Okay, you'll be unbanned soon, just get rid of the ship and don't let him play on your stuff anymore." Mmmm... Three and a half months later, I would agree about the expediciousness of your efforts. Many thanks!

Grr...

suggestion:

if your gonna be away for longer than 40 days, can there be a forum thread to post into, saying:

Char name: blah blah
Account code: blah blah
Credits: 111111111
date away: 01/01/01

and then when your back,

I have returned, please restore my char.

this would mean that when the server is undergoing maintenance and names are being changed, inactive chars could be restored. I lost a char with 500m on it because sometimes im away for weeks on end, and when i get leave, i can't log in in time. I woulndt mind waiting a fortnight for my char to be restored, nor would i mind paying 2m credits for this facility.

this would mean that the server wouldnt get swamped with old chars, and regular dedicated players would be able to take a 'holiday from reason' without worrying about their chars.

' Wrote:No, hell I think it should be lowered, not up. The bigger the database we have, the more crashes and lag we'll get. If you're to lazy to keep your characters active, then it's your own fault. The rest that don't play though should go as soon as possible.

Lazyness!... I'll be joining the army... got nothing to do with lazyness.... :nono:

And that is why you find someone to entrust your characters to to take care of them, or a family member/friend that could just simply run the game and do it. Planning in advance to have your characters saved isn't lazy, blaming the timer is.

"Looks like i'll have to do that, should be able to get that done I reckon..." posted before your first one.

As I said, thats what I plan too do. And no one is blaming the timer... a question was asked, and thankfully alot of people came back with "Helpful" suggestions. So my problem is pretty much solved...

What about removing them to backup, and not deleting them...
Then the user that has a valuable account can request (via the forum) to have an account restored.

This restore process would only be performed once a month or even once every 2 months then the admins wont be choc-er with adhoc requests etc.

Another option (not sure if possible) is to have accounts below a certain level delete quicker than higher level accounts, which either have extended periods or no deletion...

NB: Remember also that you only need to log on for a split sec to refresh the char. 1 min per char is all it takes.

Well , this can be a bad idea . I would never give a Freelancer ID to someone .
If after your vacation your account is banned or in prison i dont think Disco Admins will release them , because you havent played and it was your brother etc.

A 40 day limit is ok for me , but sometimes people need a larger amount of time .
So removing them to backup or even just banning them ( banned chars wont get deleted right ? ) could be the trick . Sure you can put up a bill for this service of some million credits .

In a perfect world with super fast kvantum computers, and infaliable hard drives, yes... make it infinate... but right here right now, 30days should do it....

If it doesn't find a friend who you can trust. You don't give them the account to play it, you give it for them to update it, let's say every 15 days...

I also suggest we all cut down on our char numbers... that would help server stability likewise...

Cutting the number of chars we have is a good thing...

I barely use my LSF LF and my LSF liner.
