There's far worse in the mod than Connecticut.

Connecticut is where you can log on, test (and hone) your skills (and loadout) and most importantly, do so without flying through a dozen empty systems first.

Unless the server manages to get completely full, it is mostly harmless.
Aside from caps stressing the server, anyway.

Its existence should not be up for debate.

As for the Recruit ID, meh. The line seems unneccessary, but testing impossible loadouts isn't that useful either.

You may think thats a good thing but its not, Thats 10 less people who are actually contributing to the server in any way, Thats 10 less encounters for anyone on the real server. And when people see others in conn their first thought is "Hey people in conn ima go there and pvp were there is more people. Conn sucks away every other part of the game and should be thrown to the garbage or made into a system that actually contributes something other than mindless pvp.

While I can see your concern, the root cause is that we're simply losing people. Taking away conn isn't going to fix that, and it will be harmful in other ways. We should instead be focusing our effort into trying to attract new people to the mod to fill the holes.

Sometimes I like to pew with my freelancer that's not on any bounty board and is also pretty much ignored by people because the ID makes me too neutral ;[.

Oh and before you say we should all jump to a different pvp orientated server - if a good bit of people care to log and go to Conn it means people actually like Conn and aren't hurting others, but having fun with likeminded people. It's not like we're fighting for player slots anymore, this isn't 2009-2010 so what are we really hurting if we do the pew here and not on a different server?

And if all those people go away to a different pvp server? How would that improve the number of people in the "real" Disco? What is the difference between logging off Disco, going to say DoD to do some pew-pew-boom-pew with friends and doing it here? Both times the RP part of this server would suffer number losses.

If you think removing Conn would magically increase the number of RP encounters like a miracle you're a tad wrong - people would just need to find another more annoying way to test ships and train with others.

P.S. Apperantly you guys hate alts way too much nowadays. Good thing I managed to remember my old account's password after the 10th attempt.

RE: Recruit ID cannot enter Connecticut - SnakThree - 11-09-2013

If I had the power, I'd limit Conn to maximum 6 ships.

RE: Recruit ID cannot enter Connecticut - aerelm - 11-09-2013

Remember the disaster with all the random loadouts in conn back in .85 when techchart didn't apply to conn?

That's why the line's in recruit ID. It's the only open ID which has no technerf, and it's to be used solely for setting up. Without that line though, it woulda been just a matter of time before people started remaking all those stupid ship/gun combinations using a recruit ID and wasting their time in conn all day. Now, conn is supposed to be a practice system, nothing against that, but it's supposed to be for practicing whatever you'll be doing out in the RPland, not loling around on crazy loadouts whenever you feel bored.

Conn is like the waiting lobby in a lot of other online games, it's a great place to meet people, there's a casual tone and people are generally a lot nicer / got less tunnel vision in conn.

I think it is a great place for new players to go, also for them to see for themselves that the game isn't all about memorizing rules and getting to know the little quirks that make this place tick, but also about just having fun with relaxed and like-minded individuals.

If I had the power, new players would start in conn and use a /restart template to get on the RP part of the server after saying hi and getting tired of randomly shooting each other in CSV's.

EDIT: ^That's a fair point.

Yhats actually one of the best Conn ideas i have seen so a +1 from me on that.
Lets hope the Dev`s understand that great idea.

I actually think it'd be awesome of the stations in conn sold ALL generic civilian equipment and a bunch of the generic civilian/borderworlds ships.

So easy to hop right in if that was the case.

RE: Recruit ID cannot enter Connecticut - Lonely_Ghost - 11-09-2013

Actualy, it's indeed awesome idea, to make Conn as a hub for the new players. Basic info, weapons, and some ships could be awailable there.
