i like it, and there will be no need for a rep adjustment either

Ive seen, what i belive is the best option (on another mod), an empty system with some Jumpholes.

Their names were: Liberty, Rheinland, Kusary, Bretonia, Outcasts, Corsairs.

All of them were one-way JHs. I chose Rheinland and apeared in the New Berlin System with Rheinland factions rep slightly forwarded to green.

This empty system gave newbies the ability to choose their faction from the very beginning, and it made more sense in RP manner. Why would every Kusary character have to be born in manhattan or make a RP about how they changed factions?

I say we vote on some of this matters and show it to the admins.

What I suggest does not require the Discovery modification to be altered, it is much simpler. The change of starting location can be done server-side after each maintenence, so it would practically change from day to day. I don't know how to implement that precisely, but it shouldn't be too hard. Besides I can't know what kinds of server-side software is being used. Some administrators might know. One-way jumphole system would require a mod change. And it would look ugly.

It's worth it 'looking ugly' for people to be able to start roleplaying from the moment they begin their character, rather than having to travel someone else or come up with some stupid reason why a Blood Dragon is having a little vacation in New York.

I like the idea of a central system with oneway Jump Holes to the main areas of Sirius, but I don't know how much work it would take and if it could be done for 4.85.

When I was playing on Sir Warwick (quiet server but a real inspiration before modding got serious & sadly no more) players could program a one off console command to restart with a fixed RP setting. For example a //rogue restart started you in Buffalo with a Bloudhound & LR rep. A //corsair restart got you a legionaire in Trafalgar with corsair rep. See a pattern emerging ;)

I spoke with Stoatee who was Warwick god & he said it was easy to do, and judging from the sanction reports where players load outs & reps are adjusted for various reasons I cannot see why this cannot be incorporated into DISCO.

It is supposed to be a new system with one-way jumpgates to each of the House capital systems. Once you leave it, you can never go back (unless you're able to teleport, in which case only admins should be doing that). Don't ask me how it works, or what bases or anything like that. I wouldn't tell you that much anyway. Just that it is being sorted out. With luck, it'll be gotten working for 4.85 and New York will finally stop being newbie spamfest central XD

If the starting point was rotated then new players would need alot more money at the start. A Starflyer won't be able to make money in Rhineland for example to get a new ship(NPC's would waste starflyers, especialy new players).

Liberty's monopol on new pilots - Coin - 07-27-2008

Starfleas are pretty worthless ships to take up against daggers, so i guess that they'll be given the lowest system-relevant ship.

For example, spawn in london, get a crusader.

now, the crusader is worth 70k, and a starflea 20k.

will the mod be able to adjust the player's starting credits so that a ny-spawn gives him/her a cash bonus of 50k, but a nl-spawner gets the ship instead?

i only mention it cos i can just see newb's going 'WAAAAAH! im in a starflea, i've been ripped off!'

Apart from this little criticism, i like the idea a lot. I also like the idea of the rep's being subtly different, so zoner-tagged ships with freelancer-ids become a rarity instead of the norm

Well, I see that my claim was wrong. There is not enough of cheap civilian ships sold at the colonies, in fact for such widely used ships (the civilian line) they have only a few selling points.

You can mine Gold in Bretonia. In Rheinland, there's Diamonds. And Kusari, well ... you can always get your money by trading / escorting / cargo piracy as usual.

A starflier can be trashed in New York by pirates, too, I don't see the difference. Perhaps the newbies could ask for an actual House Police assistance to help when it gets hot, hm? I think the local police would at least have something to do.

The civilians need protection always, be it Liberty or not.

Even without the changes (more civilian ship selling points) I think this would be at least worth a try. Say, a little experiment. The admins can switch the starting location manually every few days, anyway. No need for software.

Really?

You don't see the difference between getting mobbed by Daggers and getting mobbed by Valkyries or Stilettos?
