75th have started to fly freighters, their speed makes them ideal, and the total lack of any transports willing to pay piracy fines completely cripples my faction which relys only on money gained by the factions members.
no outside currency is permitted unless the faction does a job for somebody and is paid for the completion of that.
so for small factions actually taking RP into account have great use for freighters.
also, just get an arrastra with rogue guns and terminate everything you see. you'll need at least 4 VHF to kill a skilled one thats TS/TZ raping the crap out of you with those 8.33 doom sticks.

I cried when they changed the Anki. Used to be my favorite mining ship, but without the missile slots you're just a sheep.

Well the Xshuttle... soon to be renamed the Tranquility I think, has a new model right now and it looks pretty good. I know there is a plan to replace the current civilian freighter model but other than that I am not sure there are any others in the works.
And yes there are combat freighters, and there should be... the Rogue one is pretty nice, and the Correo is not a bad combat freighter either. The Grizzly gets the job done as well and we all hear stories of Camaras.
Also the Rhino has been rebalanced to work as a high end freighter now.

CSV is a pretty sweet combat freighter.
IMO, put 2 missile slots on all SHFs. Bam, there's your combat freighter.
