RE: Is there a strategy game... - evanz - 12-11-2013 yeah ra2 is good (red alert 2), still play that every now and then RE: Is there a strategy game... - AshHill07 - 12-11-2013 Wargame springs to mind. Still getting free content updates too. RE: Is there a strategy game... - Toaster - 12-11-2013 I played Red Alert 2 extensively and I don't recall that exactly fitting my parameters. And while Wargame looks absolutely incredible, it's waaaay out of my PC's league. How about Grand Strategy titles like the Hearts of Iron or Europa Universalis series? Or perhaps Crusader Kings as well. RE: Is there a strategy game... - kikatsu - 12-11-2013 The Homeworld series, a space RTS game, that has pretty decent scale, but I imagine it is hard to get your hands on a copy of it these days. You can also look at Sacrifice, a weird kind of mix of games that puts you on the ground as a magically powered commander and you can command armies of monsters in an RTS fashion. Maybe the first Sword of the Stars game... though that is a 4X game, but the combat rounds have some RTS elements to them, but it is not super in depth. RE: Is there a strategy game... - Toaster - 12-11-2013 I took a look at some review of Crusader Kings, and, well, nah. Grand strategy games are just too... grand. They don't exactly fit what I'm looking for, since actual unit control usually isn't part of the game. Played Homeworld Cataclysm and Homeworld 2 (yarr-harr fiddle-dee-dee), great games. But a lot of strategy didn't seem to be involved either, at least not on the maneuvering side of it. Sacrifice looks... weird? to say the least. And I was actually looking at Sword of the Stars earlier, might take a close look. The idea of the different propulsion systems is interesting. RE: Is there a strategy game... - Just.Dave - 12-11-2013 Well you could try "The Cossacks 2: Battle for Europe" which is an old fun Napoleonic era game RE: Is there a strategy game... - Toaster - 12-11-2013 I played Cossacks: Back to War quite a lot back in the day, and I kinda think it looks better than Cossacks 2 gameplay wise. Or at least very different. I might look into Cossacks 2 though later on. Anyway, I just tried out the R.U.S.E. demo on steam and it turns out that on low settings I can actually play it. Yay to shitty PCs. So, I think I'll go with that for now. But keep the suggestions coming. RE: Is there a strategy game... - Deatlev - 12-11-2013 Civilization - Call To Power A very old game, but oh my, it is a beauty. It's slightly different from the usual Civilization games, I'll tell you that. This is by far my most favourite game with Civilization in the name. ( Mix of RPG, RTS and Turn Based Strategy, aw and you're getting to play as a dragon who wants to reunite he's empire, and what's more... you're a dragon, with a jetpack ) Star Wars Empire at War? I'd dare throw Mount and Blade: Warband and any mod because it does have a little strategy to it. Lords of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2? Warhammer 40k Dark Crusade? Any Command and Conquer game? Rome Total War? ( I know you said you didn't like Medieval 2, but if you never tried the first Rome, I suggest you still give it a shot ) |
