I sense sympathy. With sympathy comes pity and with pity comes indulgence. Indulgence leads to the dark side.

Okay, I think we're taking the Yoda references a bit too far here...

At any rate, to quote some guy I don't know, "A smart man learns from his mistakes. A wise man learns from the mistakes of others."

In some cases, it proves too late to be the wise man, but it is not too late to at least be smart.

As was stated before, there is a rules commodity in your starting character's inventory, console messages leading you to the forums and rules, and players such as King and I who warn people ingame that they might be doing something wrong.

In my eyes, there are no excuses. Absolutely none.

Think of it this way:

You move to a country that speaks a different language. you find a place to live, & find a job. You glance over the local laws & customs... but in your haste to pay rent & start your new life, you went out in the society hoping to learn what you need to know about your new home as you go along.

The residents try to be as helpful as they can, because they see you making an effort to learn local customs & trying to coherently speak the language, but they have to take a step back & return indoors when the cops haul you off to jail for catching you breaking local law.

'Ignorance of the law is no excuse' the cops say, but, you call a press conference saying that it should be.

If it were an acceptible excuse, everyone would use it, & the society would decline as a whole into anarchy...

:P

Personally, I wish they'd ban players who act like you apparently do more often.

There's alot of OOC going on at any given time on the server, it's comforting to know that someone out there deals with it. I'm not sure if first time offenders are deserving of a ban, but they should certainly be on the recieving end of a rather harsh sanction.

Even the Discovery server description tells you straight up, "Discovery RP 24/7 is a roleplaying server."

Besides, if I remember correctly, Gran_Canaria was over level 40 and was flying a rather powerful ship. This means you had been playing for quite awhile and had ample time to familiarize yourself with the rules.

.. 'Course, I'm a pretty forgiving person, so I would probably give you a second chance if I were an ADMIN. But as a player, after seeing some of the antics you participated in at Yanagi, I'm rather glad they banned you. It's only for 7 days anyway as far as I know, you'll be able to return soon enough.

It's kinda how peole use race or gender to excuse themselves or others.

I think you all missed the point. The reason I got banned is a misunderstanding, the OOC comment that I was banned for was not a OOC comment at all. What I said was completely in character, there was no OOC comment.

I imagine the player who had me sanctioned sent a screen shot with only the one line visible, because in context I was acting as a Zoner telling a fleeing terrorist to get out of the area.

Players automatically assume that I told the playing "get out of here because its server rules" when in context what I said was much more like "get out of my face terrorist!" or "you better run"

Yeah. Nothing really needs to be said.

Haven't you typed the word "nigga" and variants of it, whilst in-game?
