No you read it right, as the gunboat is an anti-fighter ship it should terrify any lone or pair of VHFs/bombers that are daft enough to get in it's way or try to attack it.

But like I said I know how much arguing these opinions would cause which is why it's here and not in the mod bug suggestions thread.

It shouldn't strike fear into a BS though ... Which at the moment it is quite capable of taking out on its own. Sorry my mistake.

That's not true.

Only VERY rarely can a GB take on a BS.

With the weps a GB is SUPPOSED to have, missiles and GB weps, it is impossible.

I have been playing Freeworlds a bit recently and I like the capship and fighter setup. Capships have to be fought with capships, or at least 7 or more fighters with torpedos equipped. I think this is how battleships should be. On that server if you see a capship your first thought is to start dodging like h*ll until a friendly capship can get in and help.Or if you have a ton of fighters you all turn and shoot a ton of torps at it. Capital ships are supposed to be the strongest ships in the game. Now gunboats should still be killable by 2 fighters or a well flown bomber. But a BS it should require at least a cruiser and 4 or so fighters or about 5 fighters and 2 bombers to take down. Pirates aren't supposed to have a chance against a BS but a pirate can now kill one by himself. I really think the capship hull needs a serious upgrade and Novas dmg reduced to like 5,000 more than the sunslayer but with the same explosion radius to work more against immune zones. This will help the BS and cruisers achieve their real purpose.

I definately agree with Dab (haven't seen FW though, but IMO that's like it should be).
The battles also (at least the planned ones)... there should be like for example, one BS, 2 cruisers, 2 or 3 GBs, say 4 fighters and 4 bombers (a real battlegroup).
You'll all agree we mainly have a few BSs and a few fighters... which is... RP wise - maybe a skirmish, not a real battle. Not to mention the fact that the BS can be relatively easily pwnt.
Another thing - the RhBomber I'm talking about isn't loaded with tizonas, it has the two turrets and an inferno for shield killing.

Aaanyway, I think Gunboat hull is fine. 2 VHF's can take kill a GB, which is the way it should be.

Since when an rheinland bomber doesnt use rheinland guns. I wonder why the Stealthblade MK2 and Hornviper MK2 isnt sold anywhere though npc valkyries got it.

The only problem are the codename weapons. In "normal" freelancer universe (not multiplayer) Their quite "lost" and rare because of that. But due to their respawning soon everyone has them, wich lieads to weapon-inflation.
Server message say that its a RPing server. And Rping would work more well if it would be like Sinleplayer, with some factions being the strong ones and some the less strong ones. Like Liberty. Weak but agile. Rheinland heavy but kind of slow and bulky. Kusari is quick and middle strong and Bretonia is balanced i guess... Pirates are mostly customized ships and Nomads are just the uber threat.
Battleships should equip same guns as the AI ships to be efficient, the developers wouldnt have given them those weapons if it woud suck.

Thats my opinion.

Problem is, gunboats CAN'T take out ONE Raven Claw on its own. I mean, I had one with TWO Cruiser missile turrets, two tizzy, and two gunboat turrets... I would have totally been anihilated if I didn't run. Normally, I would die, but I had a schedule to keep. Then I attacked a GB with SIX Gunboat turrets and a FWD Gun... I did less than a FIGHTER did...

Point and case. This is not Freeworlds. :P

ETA: Making it statistically impossible for someone to win with skill is just a cop out for people that want to spend weeks trading just so they can walk all over everybody. I wholeheartedly disagree with it. It's entirely possible to configure a battleship or cruiser to fend off fighters, but perhaps there should be an additional anti-fighter turret added in to give the wing jockeys something to think about. On the matter of beefing the armor AND reducing the fighter's capship damage potential... well, that's just dumb. You either have one or the other. Anything else is too drastic.
