Also, if you'd go deeply into it all other space sim's game mechanics might make you "meh", so be cautious and don't overnerd with it

I used to play EVE but I could never get into it. I was always getting blown up by pirates because I was AFK anyway.

It's free, it's retro, being a great hommage to the Frontier games, and you can literally roam a whole galaxy with hundreds of thousands of stars, with only your very own motivations guiding you through space.
And all that for a 175 mb download.
