The end of a story... - jimmy Patterson - 09-13-2008 Kusari first fleet Battleship yamato deck 3 C section VIP quarters the room was recently changed around he could see marks in the carpeting and a few electronics knocked ajar perhaps to dewire the room as they were now guests of the admrial or mabye it was mantince,he sighed and looked to isabelle "this ships massive, there cultures massive, hell im not even remotly related to kusari im part bretionian for christ sakes,i thought liberty was tough ,kusari hell i dont even know where to begine that and my japanese is horrable i dont think i can follow you love and with there zero tolorence for mercs and bounty hunters and there honor you cant let me hang around ain say the civilian 'falls with a hunter id,what am i gonna do?" Isabelle hushed him and smiled telling him what he knew she would and in truth what he wanted to hear he dident need to he just wanted to" youll be fine ,my love just be yourself allbeit with a kusari tounge and rhineland accent,Uncle Datie wil ltake care of us"* she kissed him and drew him to bed to rest it had been a busy day planning tours dinner, jim sighed tired not of the day but of the weight of his decision finally hitting him sleeply he kissed her back and replyed"oh isa,i hope your right because if your not we wont beable to see eachother anymore, and id die without you.....i feel that i am reguardless..... The end of a story... - Xing - 09-15-2008 Isabelle sighed slowly, but smiled nonetheless. It wasn't an easy transition for her either, but she already set her mind to it. It was in any event, her only choice; she wasn't sure for Jimmy who seemed to have many contacts outside and might survive just about anywhere. She didn't had such a freedom of action. "I'm sorry Jimmy... I didn't truly asked what you intended to do after we left Liberty... if you intend to return to bounty hunting, I won't try to stop you. I guess I should explain to you my part of the plan now." "Admiral Mitsurugi planned for us a position within the imperial forces. I think it is the best option for us, for we have one same goal despite many differences, and that would be to preserve peace and order. We, Kusari and Libertonian, might have many different enemies, but criminals from here or there; what is the difference? They all are under either the Corsair or Outcast flags. It is the only reason why they have such wealth and war capacity. I believe it is another reason why I cant think of going alone bounty hunting. I want to make a difference, and that, only a house military can achieve." Isabelle looked in the infinity of space through the single viewport of the room. Through it, she stared at the immensive might of the imperial fleet, hundreds of warships in perfect formation, thousands of shuttle, combat craft, freighter, performing supply, repair, training, all in orderly fashion. In all her time in Liberty, she never saw anyone who commanded so much firepower, so much men. In comparison, the 106th battlegroup was small, very small. "I was often propelled by vengeance when it came to fight... it was my actual reason to enlist in the armed forces. But Mitsurugi was right, vengeance leads to nothing, and in the end, despite all the strenght it gives you, you fail to achieve anything important because you lose your real objective... Let's set aside for a moment the House internal and inter-house conflicts; our real goal is clear, eradicate the two suprematic pirate entities. Both the two of us has suffered loss because of them, and, I don't think neither of us will let them continue their agression." "Not as a mean to get vengeance, but so it never happens to anyone else again. Shouldn't this be true honour?" The end of a story... - jimmy Patterson - 09-15-2008 Kusari first fleet Battleship yamato deck 3 C section VIP quarters *he sighed then turned to look at her his gaze forceing her to turn as well* "it aperes that i had enlisted for all the wrong reasons then i was just a humble miner i ran to the lsf and later the army seeking helpo a way to undo what was wrong, strike back at those who had destroyed all i had in my life its probly because im scared of what wil lhappen but im starting to doubt myself...*she kissed him and at the same moment be it by her kiss or just by chance he remembered his oatyhs and promises to liberty*your right isa i shouldent dread on the past but work for stopping it from happening again, theres stil lthe problem of my blood when they run my medical exame it wil lshow me of liberty citizenship my mother of bretionian blood they will probly command me to a 8 by 8 cell or the sharp side of a katana..i dont know what to do anymore but ill follow you my love,my genenral, till i can follow you no more" The end of a story... - Xing - 09-16-2008 Isabelle looked back at Jimmy, her cyan eyes sparkling with that confidence she so often knew to give to her men when they were in hard times. "Do not worry my love, everything will be fine, I promise you. In the end, the Kusari people will accept us just like you've managed your way in the liberty military despite having familial ties to the bretonian military. Or just like I managed to achieve the command of a unit composed of my own people. Nothing is impossible, there's always a weakness in the invincible armor of an enemy. No human-created concept is without imperfection." She smiled warmly, "It is just our job to find out where is that weakness." -- The next few days were passed aboard between the Akamatsu and the Yamato, visiting their new working environment and getting to know the crew. As Jimmy predicted, a medical test went by but nothing went wrong; merely a health check to make sure of everything. Both received a temporary uniform that had no ranking and was in a white and grey colour scheme; the uniform of the "outsider evaluators". Because "outsider evaluator" (or, supervisors) were usually top of the line rheinland militar academy officers with an impressive amount of experience and much more knowledge than the kusari own people on star warfare, the Kusari soldiers held a great deal of respect for these men. However, two obvious problem appeared; first, Isabelle looked incredibly too young to be even a commodore, and, well she was a woman. Even more mysterious. Although young admiral prodige existed by the past (Mitsurugi being a prime exemple in the Kusari history), it was barely heard of any woman achieving such rank at all. "Well, they'd have to treat the two of you just like they treated every of the previous supervisors! Merkatz, Blittenfeld... bah, if they managed to endure the bad temperament of Blittenfeld they can endure their aching pride at seeing you occupying this post, by the Empire!" And Mitsurugi having said so with the commodore Kaito present next to them, that solved the problem rather quickly. And it was wearing these new uniforms of Supervisor for the Empire that Isabelle and Jimmy departed as fast as a week later aboard the newest 7th konoe shidan fleet' flagship, the KNF Amaterasu. The small group of 12 vessels, ranging from battleship to gunship, departed from the Yukawa shipyards for the sigma borders... -- The clouds of Kusari were reputed to be the most beautiful of Sirius, rivalised only by the gigantic golden Walker Nebula within the Rheinland border. They were also known to be the home of the pirate scourge. Only one entity knew these death traps as well, and it was the GMG. But even the GMG would be scratching their head, wondering how the Kusari fleet would move within a nebula without being seen. It was at best reckless, at worst, a catastrophe to become. Isabelle frowned slightly, as she walked up to the command deck where commodore Kaito was standing. "Commodore Kaito, your men are unexperienced in nebula warfare. Fleet Admiral Mitsurugi only ordered us to check around them for pirate presence, not to go within to seek them." "Mistress Kaitlynn, with all due respect, but no pirate will come out if we circle around with such massive vessels. And our goal isn't just about wasting fuel to accumulate no kills." Isabelle looked on the crew working down at their post. Yes, they were disciplined men, much more disciplined than the libertonian soldiers she was used to work with on the Citadelle. But they were in their first true assignment... "Commodore Kaito, with all due respect, but if the GMG managed to ambush the mighty war juggernaught that was the Rheinland Reichsflotte a few decades ago, a bunch of pirates in large number enough can pull out the trick as well. Might I remember, that due to our size, our shadow are easier to detect than the smaller sized pirate crafts, which puts us at a disadvantage." "Nonsense. Mistress Kaitlynn, I hold great respect for your competence; you must be a highly decorated officer in your nation and be worth every single medals you've won with your service, but here is Kusari, and we have different method of strategy and warfare, in a different environment, different ships, different philosophy and different enemies." You'd be a fool to think these are so important differences, commodore... Isabelle thought, as she stepped back next to Jimmy. Stupid, blind pride... you hope to catch a bunch of careless pirates with that fleet of your's... but pirates aren't the idiotic, disorganised low lifes we used to know by the past... ever since the strenghtening of their alliance with their respective side, they have learnt to act as strictly as a military organisation despite the apparent confusion their language on open channel tend to suggests... By now, any number of pirate scouts should have spotted our shadow. They will ask for reinforcement from their nearest bastion or waypoint; the dragons have chugoku not so far away, the corsairs or outcasts often use the Yanagi station to launch strike groups. We should be ambushed soon enough... in large enough numbers, they can blast this fleet to nothingness quite easily, the gunners being blind by this thick cloud of gas... thanks god we are not in the explosive pockets area yet. Just as her reflection finished, the ship shook violently as a gunboat flying very close to them exploded suddenly without apparent explanation. Commodore Kaito backed from the surprising blast, bewildered... "It's the Corsair! 5 entire wings of corsair combat crafts!!" a radar operator from below yelled over the confusion. But they already noticed that as they saw the unmistackable shape of a feared Titan fighter fly by the bridge, crippling the shield with high powered laser blast. Commodore Kaito reseized himself and tried to make himself imposing, standing straightly and making gestures with his arms as he gave his orders; "All ships, open fire at will! Shoot only when certain to hit, we don't want friendly fire! Destroy them at close range if necesary, but blast these scums to the ashes where they come from!!" Isabelle ran forward, "No its too late! Retreat immediately out of the nebula and blast them from point blank range if they try to pursue, this is useless for the fleet to die here!" Kaito looked at her, obviously annoyed, and ignored her, watching the combat display screen with intensity, obviously in his little world... Isabelle growlered in desperation as she rushed toward the crew command stations; "Starfighter command, deploy all fighter squadrons for interception immediately!" "B... but mistress Kaitlynn, we have no authoris..." "I take full responsibility for everything. Your commodore is acting recklessly, so if you still want to live to accomplish some honourable deeds instead of dying immediately in a dishonourable trap, do as I say!" And there was no more question asked as the man immediately gave orders to the fighter wings to deploy. His example pushed the other to do same, as Isabelle pulled out more orders; "Main guns cease fire, switch to fast firing interception fire, missiles ports, fire at the larger combat freighter, they seems to be looters but might as well be landers, knock them unconscious, then we'll turn our attention on the flies! Helm, back away out of her..." "Helm, do NOT move our position, is that clear?! Mistress Kaitlynn, you may issue combat details to my men, but don't overstep the bound of your authority!" Kaito didn't finished, that he was thrown violently against a wall as the ship shook once again. "one of the freighter went right on a blind spot to our turrets of our ship and has attacked itself on it! They... they seems to be cutting directly on the hull!" Isabelle widened her eyes in surprise. So fast? The corsairs were attempting an invasion already...! "Jimmy, take care of them, they are near the engine block, don't let them near it!".... Isabelle pushed away hastily the body of Kaito. She wasn't even sure he was indeed dead, but judging by the wound she could barely see in the dim red alarm lights that went on, no one could possibly survive this. She wasn't intact herself. The taste of her own blood filled her mouth - she wasn't sure where was it coming from, nor did it matter. As long as she could think coherently and see clearly, they could live... "Very well." "Zan kan (All ships)! Retreat from this battlefield immediately, thruster maximal impulse. Prepare hard turn by starboard on my command!" Another violent blast shook the ship as one of the destroyer' hull was ripped open. The shriek of the explosion sounded like the awful moan of a dying dragon as the final moment of the vessel came to be and its fusion engines disintegreated in an artifice of golden fire. But Isabelle was focused on her display screen so much she couldn't afford to notice anything else. She wasn't even sure her tactic would work; it was something never seen used before. Against an enemy at advantage and from which you can't retreat away easily, you needed to pull out trickeries from her sleeve... the Kaitlynns were good for that. The red dots representing her fleet' crafts were now backing away, but soon as the movement was noticed, the blue dots representing the corsair crafts turned around to follow... yes, as expected they were closing in for melee combat, the speciality of the smaller ships. It made them hard to target since they could profit from the many blind spot of a capital ship... As the blue dots approached, the Amaterasu began to shook heavily once again... but she smiled in triumph as she saw most of the enemies grouping around the flag, the largest vessel... "Now! All ship, turn 180 degree, maximal output, transfer all gun energy to your helm! Once done, fire at will!" Isabelle grapped at the nearest thing she could find, that was, her console, and braced herself as the ship violently manoeuvered a move it wasn't designed to do. She could hear the massive metallic structure of the battleship moan as it tried to held itself together, and she only realised how immense a kusari flagship was compared to the liberty dreadnaught, much smaller and aerodynamic... And all the while, impacts could be felt and heard all over the ships, as the Amaterasu literally smashed the unsuspecting small corsair fighters on its hull, eliminating dozens of crafts like a large bulldozer steamrolling over an ant colony. Once this manoeuver completed, all ships began firing at the dazzled enemies, and everyone on the Amaterasu bridge sighed in relief as they realised the ship held together. "Mistress Kaitlynn, the parasite freighter has been totally destroyed by the collision with a corsair combat craft during our rotation operation. We have eliminated or heavily damaged over 45% of the enemy group." "Very well. Are we now aligned to get out of the cloud?" "Yes, supervisor Kaitlynn." "Very well. Retreat now at maximal speed." The crew looked bewiledered as they turned around, looking at her impassive face. "But, supervisor Kaitlynn, we are winning...!!" "No. This fight was unecesary in the extreme and nearly ended in a bloody fight by attrition, in which we would have lost. The enemy is aware of this, and it is the reason why even now they pursue us at a safe distance. They hope for reinforcement." Isabelle sighed slowly. The crew was disciplined, enthusiastic to battle and competent, but they had much to learn to be wise enough to fight... "We are warriors, not savages. We do not fight because there is an opportunity to kill in front of us. We fight for an ideal, but dead we are nothing. And fighting every battle just because we can will lead us to nowhere but death." They remained suspicious and confused until the ship captain rose up from his chair, "Mistress Kaitlynn, your words are true. We are acting like the wild and goaless chrysanthemum. In our excitation to engage combat, we have left our logic behind our pride. Helm, all ahead, get us out of here!" And with the voice of the ship' captain by her side, Isabelle' orders were heard and obeyed by the entire fleet as they left the nebula. She openned an internal frequency, "Love, are you alright?" she whispered, although she fully knew anyone who was on this same channel could hear them. And judging by all the inter-ship comm going by, it was obvious a lot of soldiers could if they paid attention. She heard a confirmation, and nodded satisfied, before turning her attention to the Amaterasu captain, "Thank you captain. If I might ask for your name, sir?" "Kaito. Captain Kaito. I'm the brother of the man slain there." The man pointed to the bloodied corpse on the ground in a totally unemotional fashion. "Not much family love between the two of you?" Captain Kaito smiled slightly. It wasn't something he was used to do it seems, "You've seen what kind of man he was. None of us, not even his own brother, liked him much more than that." "You, on the other hand, mistress Kaitlynn, seems to have saved this entire fleet for his dead soul. It is us, who should thank you." But it was one of the only room still decent enough to hold a small meeting. Captain Kaito and a group of the fleet' superior officers were there, along with the two foreign "supervisors". "Time is grave", Kaito began. "We have lost our commanding officer during this engagement, along with about 10% of our operational forces, including men, material and ships. The flagship is damaged - not beyong use, but heavily enough to handicap it. We are far from the nearest imperial station, very deep within the borders. To make things worse, we are still in the middle of a nebula known to hide a large amount of pirate." He looked up at the other officers, most of them captain like himself. However, he was the senior captain, and furthermore, the flag captain, and as such, held authority over them all. Then he turned his attention on Isabelle and Jimmy. "One problem at a time. We are in need of a centralised command structure. Mistress Kaitlynn, I believe you and your assistant should be assigned this role. None of us are nearly as experienced as you seems to be." Isabelle didn't hesitate. "It would be my honour, captain." "Very well. From now on, we will take your commands until we manage to reach home succesfully." Isabelle nodded, and stood from her chair. "Very well. Our second problem, as explained by captain Kaito, would be our considerable loss in the last engagement. Poor preparation is the main cause of such tremendous casuality, and we certainly do not wish to repeat these mistakes, but for the moment we can't make ships and men appear out of thin air, nor can we call for reinforcement due to the nebula' disruptive nature." "Thirdly, the flagship seems to be severly damaged. I am unsure myself if its structure will hold another attack - because we must take this under account as well. However, the Amaterasu is the only vessel with flag capacity in our actual fleet, and we will do with this. However, I will give order to run this ship with minimal crew from now on, this way, few will be sacrificed if this vessel was ever to be sunk." "And finally, our distance with civilised space. I doubt we can do much about this one, since we are already running at maximal speed on damaged drives. However, make sure all ships are going at a same pace; none must go foolishly act as vanguard. At our actual status, it will be strictly forbidden for a single ship to go on hiw own without the permission of central headquarter, that is, the Amaterasu command." She bowed respectuously, "If there aren't anymore questions, let's get back to our duty then. Thank you, all of you." Isabelle turned around her head to look at the lieutenant, somewhat surprised, but smiling to keep the man comfortable, "Taisho? I'm not even a member of the imperial fleet, lieutenant." The man nodded politely, "We are aware of this. However, we have assumed that from the far away land you come from, your rank must have equaled that of our taisho. If we are mistaken, please accept our sincere apologi..." Isabelle raised a hand slightly, "No need for lieutenant. Thank you for this touch of respect, I appreciate. I was indeed a "taisho" when serving among my people..." She turned back her attention on the spherical viewscreen in front of her, her eyes looking in the distance... "It seemed like so long ago" she said unconsciously in such a low voice, it was barely a whisper. The lieutenant nodded in agreement even though he didn't fully understand what this meant. After all, the greatest warriors were always depicted like mysterious spiritual men... and women, right? -- Before going for interrogation, Isabelle went down to the machine room, where Jimmy was supervising the repairs made to the flagship. The corsairs invader obviously attempted to destroy the engines, without too much success. However, many systems, less critical to the functionning of the vessel but still important, were either completely destroyed or heavily damaged. "Looks as if a bunch of 5 years old child passed by with axes chopping off everything... too bad they didn't chopped each other accidentally." she said without much emotion, seemingly even amused "err, did I say that out loud?" she said as she noticed Jimmy looking somewhat weirdly at her. She smiled slightly, walking a bit closer to him, "Sorry... these bloodbath scene always remind me of my darker side..." she sighed slowly, "I might have to use that darker self in a few minutes though... but I need whatever I can substract from these corsair pirates. Their intel might save our life, or we might be walking straight in a trap without even knowing..." Her cyan eyes didn't seemed as bright with joy as they used to be, but they regained some of their strenght when she looked at her love. "Thank you hun for staying with me all the way... thank you." She stood on the tip of her toes for a few seconds, a few seconds to kiss her love quickly (because Jimmy was somewhat taller than she was) before going to the grim "dungeons" of the vessel. -- Isabelle wasn't much of a humanist, she knew it. A few years spent in the Liberty White Wolf squadrons made her a very cold and efficient military tool when it was requiered. Over the time, she managed to control, restrain that incredibly dark side of herself to the point where, in a normal life situation, she looked, well, quite normal and even cheerful. However, war was an ugly place to be, a harsh place to survive, and there, not only did this side surfaced easily, she needed this unhuman war machine. Herself. "Where have you launched your strike." In her life, she had tortured more people than she cared to remember. In her memory, none of them had a face. It was necesary, so to keep her mind mentally balanced. Those who failed to forget their victims often ended up in an asylum or ended their life with a laser beam. There was nothing to be done about it, every human being was made like that. "Injection of serum to low quantity." No, in fact, she remembered one. Her first time. Like many other, the first time was hard and usually ended up with a morally painful souvenir. Her's was perticularly... horrible. "Where have you launched your strike." They managed to breack through a rogue outpost somewhere on Houston. It was such a dry sky. The White Wolves present were sweating to death in their heavy combat armour, even though their movements, swift and deadly, didn't seemed so. when the base was cleansed, they discovered it was about to detonate. They could have escaped, easily, so fast they made the job. But the outposts had many interesting data that would take time to download and decode. Too much time to do so before the self destruction. Luckily, the crime-band' chief was still alive. Lost a whole arm starting from the shoulder, but they managed to sterilise and put the terrible wound on stasis. The White Wolf commander looked around and picked her to perform interrogation. It was suposed to be relatively easy, they had time before timer went up. "I will describe a bit what this serum does. It will force you to reveal me, anything I will ask. We are indeed messing with your brain. However, because your sub conscious tries to fight it, your body will easily be confused, and do actions that might become deadly for you." The truth serum. Ah, it was a very useful tool, takes a lot of training before one was qualified to use it. In unexperienced hand, the victim often ends up dead, or both interogator and victimes die, if the last one isn't securly restrained. Madness can give the human body quite some surprising strenght. "You may pray for the most merciful death, which is a case where the brain shut down, and leaves you in a vegetative state. This happens only 4.5% of the time. Usually, that is, 45% of the time, you will end up biting your own tongue or swallowing it, to keep yourself silent." The screams panicked her usually steeled mind, and in her panick, she administered way too much serum. The amount was safe for a normal body to endure - at least, a 55% chance to survive or so. Which was high, with that deadly serum. But the man lost an arm, bled nearly to death. The toxic counpound overloaded in his blood. And his blood, came out from every orifice of his body. Eyes, nose, mouth, ears. "Where..." "A-2 THETA-PRIME!!!!!!" -- A few hours later, Isabelle nearly collapsed in exhaust as she exited the prison' gates... But now, they were finally safe to return home.... where was home already? aah yes... uncle Daite... She smiled without any restrain as she fell in her bed, fell in the world of sweet dreams. Why, what was she doing in that sinister dungeon anyway? -- |
