On a side note those random ripple explosions are so hilariously cheesy I don't know whether to keep them or not...

RE: ZZZ FX - Oldum - 08-06-2014

The effect is awsome, , but the small explosions you mentioned might not be needed, cause it looks a bit wierd that there are "explosions" around the ship when the shield is not visible .

Otherwise, it's pretty awsome Smile

Depends. Unless they kindly remove effect from the ship for time being until this one is added

how do we get that done?

RE: ZZZ FX - Krmloo - 08-06-2014

Wow! Awesome effect!

Ask an admin. It's just an "fx_dyson_shieldgen" equipment item attached to the ship.

RE: ZZZ FX - Tunicle - 08-06-2014

The ripples may be useful to keep as they suggest the bubble isn't a perfectly smooth sweeping, something that may be expected with experimental technology.

The effect is going to grate on whoever flies that ship after a while.

Will it result in much resource strain? I noticed that lights seem to screw up my lag. (Or maybe I just tend to have terrible connections when I use heavy light effects.

It depends really. Generally the answer is that particle effects do not generate network lag as they aren't synced over network. So your internet connection is entirely out of equation here. Can effects cause FPS drop? That they can, after all they're geometry too, albeit dynamically generated, but I wouldn't fret over this one in particular - it's not a performance hitter. May look nice but internally it's no more complex or as intensive as some of the engine effects.

Was curious. Cheers for answering.
