Hypocrisy - Walker - 09-15-2008 Of course we are gonna CAMP manhattan... It has lots of guns... Where as you have Taiidan's and Taiidan's are scary! Hypocrisy - Orin - 09-15-2008 Let's listen to a IRL comparison... An armed drug dealer drives his cleverly disguised super duty van through New York, not knowing that his good "friend" Eddy just ratted him out to local authorities. Suddenly... Three tanks roll into his path, one of them utterly crushing the front of his car. Soon after, the piercing shriek of three F-22 Raptors struck down from above with a devestating salvo of automatic weapons fire. The lightly armored vehicle was utterly torn to shreds... "Bogey down, Alpha Leader. Heading back to base, over." Point taken? A lil' ole cardimine or artifacts smuggler rolls into NY and we've got Naval Capital ships all over him. What? This makes no sense. If a Hellfire assault force wages war on Liberty, roll in the heavy artillery, by all means. But a smuggler or two? Or a few Rogues (Freelancer's equivilent of petty crooks)? Maybe send a few Naval fighters. There are much more Navy pilots than there are LPI, so I'll give them that, but honestly. The LPI should be taking care of more than the Navy. Real goverments don't roll out the cavalry in case of a few criminals. [/rant] Hypocrisy - Magoo! - 09-15-2008 Well... What else is there in life but tanks and Raptors? Plus, who knows how much money those drugs could have made him? The resources the armed forces used were likely less than half of what the drug dealer could've made. Duh. [/sarcasm] <-- For everybody who has identification issues. Hypocrisy - Primus Avatar - 09-15-2008 um , i agree...duh! Hypocrisy - Fletcher - 09-15-2008 ' Wrote:Let's listen to a IRL comparison...Good analogy. Hypocrisy - Walker - 09-15-2008 Nah... Bush would nuke the drug dealer... He has a big red phone that has a sticky pad on it "Incase of Emergency pick up phone and yell "CODE CLEARANCE ALPHA-9er-BETA-KAPPA-12; Commence Nuclear Strike at <Latitude, Longitude> Hypocrisy - Markam - 09-16-2008 One side: as a BAF member I never stop in one place for any extended period of time, I get smugglers through Leeds/Edinburgh, Corsairs in Cambridge or sometimes London, sometimes do a good will omega 3 patrol if theres a wingman or two (afraid not all the time..), dublin usualy if we/I are chasing someone or halting smugglers, Newcastle is just too bloody big, but I guess we have to stop CR there sometimes.... the thought of camping a single planet is just plain crazy. On the other hand: only problem being smugglers arent in lightly armed trucks, they're in huge tankers with a shield gunboat'ish, and guns that are also gunboat ish, with more cargo space for armour upgrades (my trader has universal 2.5 even). nowhere near enough police to do the antismuggling work, can a LF easily down an advanced train? a container transport? if you sit on a lane and spam dock it'll eventualy let you use it before it can be distrupted, Smugglers know they can just use the lane to go wherever they want. though I guess the LPI can get all its members setup in "SWAT" ships (bombers), drugs are halted by heavily armed police normaly, dontchathink? Hypocrisy - Donutman - 09-16-2008 ugh, the navy and LSF used to sit around in conn while Rogue GB's rolled all over the LPI. The LPI actually patrol. yey them! boo LSF and navy! /signed. Hypocrisy - Orin - 09-16-2008 ' Wrote:One side:I don't know what you're getting at here. The LPI do have a SWAT division that fly Havoc Bombers and Guardian Heavy Fighters. Besides, smuggler transports and freighters aren't that heavily armed. Transport guns are good, but they can't fight off fighters very well. The LPI can handle it fine. I've handled it fine in a Liberator LF while I was in the LPI. The Army don't attack criminals and smugglers en masse in super-powered military equipment. Period. Hypocrisy - Drake - 09-16-2008 Perhaps Naval/Armed Forces IDs are in need of modification? Take away their ability to stop smugglers or traders with contraband. Then maybe the police IDs will actually have a niche, rather than just being the poorly armed little brothers who sit around while the military has all the 'fun'. In most of the 'real world', the armed forces of a country has no authority to arrest or detain citizens except in certain situations (or by executive order). They also have no authority over the law enforcement agencies, local or national, of their country... Again, except in certain situations. In fact, the police are allowed and duty-bound to arrest military personnel performing illegal activities. |
