How about instead of just appointing 2 people, you hold a poll with several of the higher ups as options. Then you can let your members choose who they would want to lead.

Yeah, choosing those who never were apart of your faction in some way odd. And whatever @Caelumaresh said, that's pretty good idea.

If you are leaving the faction, you cannot choose an outside person to be the leader, unless the rest of the faction agrees, because they are the ones that have to decide who will lead, not you. You are leaving, so you have no saying on the faction anymore.
