EDIT: To expand on this further, my personal opinion is to keep things related to furries, bronies, and whatever other million obsessions there are on the internet away from a forum that's about a very old space game. Does it affect my experience? No, not really. Do I want to see them all the time? No, I don't, because I really don't like things like that. They're uncomfortable for a lot of people.

let me put it this way.
When i first started playing the game my friend that introduced me to the game said it is 50% forums and 50% in-game that makes disco so fun.
The game imo is played in forums as well as in-game itself.
Now if you tell that to a new player and they go on forums and all they sees is meme after meme after dank meme... then what are you telling them?

The memes are usually relegated to Flood, which, if you read the description, is pretty much designated as a spam box. Posting memes anywhere outside of Flood (unless you're an admin) pretty much guarantees an invis and some kind of punishment.
