RE: Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 - sindroms - 12-18-2015 SC is the Peter Molyneux of space games. RE: Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 - diamond1 - 12-18-2015 as of right now, i reinstalled both the launcher and the game itself. unfortunantly for me there is 29.6 gigabytes of data to download. whoopie for me! as of normally with my internet, it will take about 2-3 days during daytime for it to be done. Plenty that i've deffinantly miss. i've had to reinstall it multiple times due to recieving a "unable to load meta file" error and never bothered to fix it. sooo, hopefully this update has covered that issue. i must say though, i've done star citizen for a few minutes and i can say for those who have not done them, it's very interesting indeed. far more complex than freelancer as it is. i'm very inclined to see how it would be out in the persisting universe! RE: Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 - Tenacity - 12-18-2015 The original deadlines were for a much more shallow product with far less fidelity. A lot had been added to the vision since then, the release will include features they hadn't even considered originally. Also, anyone with a real job knows that nothing ever goes as planned and you never realistically hit deadlines. Every day at work I say "in going to get this much done today", and something always comes up and the work you wanted to complete doesn't get finished. The mistake there is that Roberts set arbitrary dates for each stage of release without considering just how much can interfere with schedule. RE: Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 - The Savage - 12-18-2015 To be honest, following both sides of the Star Citizen's criticism and praising, game is already wasted, almost wasting the entire fund that is was 90 million dollars. However, I am afraid of one thing: remember Duke Nukem Forever? How long it was made, 10 years? Yeah, hm. Then... you remember what happened with DNF in the end? It became a garbage. Some people say I'm quite pesimistic. The fact is, this exact game became yet another victim of the enormous ego. RE: Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 - Tenacity - 12-18-2015 Swtor, gtaV, and destiny all took well over 100 million usd to develop, and more to market. Start citizen looks better than those games even in alpha stage, and is under that budget amount still. RE: Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 - The Savage - 12-18-2015 Yet the problem isn't the money only. Production is prolonged pretty bad and it may, one day, end up being surpassed by a project out of nowhere. RE: Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 - Tenacity - 12-18-2015 True, but you still have to consider that this game isnt being made by an established company either. It isnt Bioware or Blizzard or Bungie, the whole thing was put together almost like a group making an indie game. What they've achieved so far without having a publisher or a prearranged team is amazing, and more than makes up for the fact that they've fallen behind schedule. As I mentioned before, diablo 3 took 11 years to make. That's a top down game without any intense physics or super-realistic graphics. It was made by a company (Blizzard) that has made dozens of games before and has a near limitless amount of funding and a huge standing fanbase that would buy the game no matter what state it was released in. It still took them 11 years with all the resources at their disposal. We're only going on 3 years with CIG and star citizen now, and we've already got a playable alpha that incorporates relatively realistic physics, extreme levels of detail, and is essentially several game types in one. This isnt just a spaceship simulator, there's first person shooter combat as well. There's ground vehicles, even. Star Citizen is aiming to be a game that anyone from any genre will enjoy. RE: Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 - Miaou - 12-19-2015 Except the people who are working on the game aren't just some random guy off the street. A lot of them have worked on games in the past, including the original team that formed when they announced the project. Hell, Chris Roberts himself worked on Starlancer, Freelancer, and many other space sims as well as other types of projects. He isn't new to this. I don't know why you keep bringing up other games. Yes, some games take decades to make. Some take only a year or two. It's not even worth bringing up as it's apples to oranges. You're missing what I am saying as well. They are missing deadlines. I'm not talking when it actually releases, I'm talking the time when they have promised the different modules and alpha/beta versions of the game. They have never met any of those. I'm also not going to praise them for "relatively realistic physics" because that comes from the engine they didn't even have to develop. The engine choice hardly makes sense, as it doesn't allow the open world they wanted, and have issues having more than 16 people in one instance (like I already said). Are you an insider or hacked the finances or inilftrated their offices or have you read to much Derek Smart? (12-19-2015, 12:20 AM)Miaou Wrote: I don't know why you keep bringing up other games. I don't even know why you are bringin up something about deadlines. They don't have deadlines. Propably expected release times, but honestly thats something else. I even don't remember something like "We promise we will release it then!!! Useless discussion like I have seen multiple times. The cryengine3 is customizable and they have a whole crew from crytek working on it. To my knowledge there isn't a "basic" engine on the market that fullfills the nearest requirements for this game at all so a choice was quite redundant. RE: Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 - Dusty Lens - 12-27-2015 Star Citizen is poop. Do not buy it. Get a refund if you already did. Their community is full of deluded cultists high on their slice of the pyramid scheme arguing that a barely functional tech demo being shoved half built out the door in an effort to satisfy SC's kickstarter requirements (the date for which having come and gone) is somehow remotely passable as a game. CIG has done nothing to earn consumer confidence. You should not give them your money on the basis of their promises. The rate of development, casual assertions of scope and the engineering debt incurred by their cash generating toys should all serve as a cautionary tale to even the most forgiving of observable red flags. Wait until it's gold and on a store shelf. Do not buy Star Citizen now. |
