Woha woha, stop.
Please re-apply your CPU cooler, because the FX-8350 (the one I have myself, by the way) throttles itself at 63°c
Unless you live in Arezona, you should be idling at 40-45c.
With the temps you specified, you are literally cooking your rig to death at a slow pace.
Also, what is your mobo? Because the AMD FXs cause problems if you try to do stupid things with low-end mobos. Rip my Asrock 980DE3/U3S3.

Ok so before all my recent posts I had actually tried Antonio's suggestion and it found something and zapped it. After rebooting and doing all the aforementioned, I can now open FL without issues and transformers runs without issues too.
I'll update if the problem occurs again.

Idle temps are at around 43 degrees when it's not doing anything arduous. My mobo is a gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3 amd 760g (socket am3+). It's micro atx which was unintentional and I do plan to replace it with a bigger one in the future.
Aaaaaand rip. It just turned off again when I opened chrome.

Dude, you are running a 4+1 Phase mobo.
Go into the bios and underclock your 8350 or even better, make it into a 4-core. Or even a 2 core. See if the problem persists.
EDIT: Look into a mobo running off a 990FX chipset if you are running a FX-8350. Something with a 6+2 or a 8+2 power. Because chances are you have blown your VRMs and now it shuts down upon applying any sort of stress to the system.

Nono, just go into the CPU settings and set the number of cores to 4 or 2. Start with 2.

My bad. It is under your Advanced Bios Features -> Core Control.
Enable only core 1 and 2 and see if it is stable.

Kudos to everyone in this thread who has helped me with this issue!
Unfortunately it seems like I'll need to purchase a new motherboard and cooler to remedy this problem. In that case I'll probably refrain from playing disco until I get some dosh to cover the costs.
