I was thinking in a similar way Cam, but making the faction cap weapons stronger/weaker to certain sheildtypes like their fighter weps.

Like bretonia is particle type, Kusari photon (?), IMG tachyon, etc etc.. instead of the normal energy type that has the same damage to all types of sheilds thing we have currently.. I beleive it'll put a lot more depth into future cap battles than it is now.

Problem is, what would you classify basic turrets as then... Laser?

Seriously...there is no NEED for balance, think about it, if you had balance, noone would ever win.

As for the all faction lvl 10 guns...not needed, i guess a level 10 Kraken would do about 1k damage per shot and then you'd whine again.

Balancing is overrated.

balancing does not necessarily mean nerfing - you know. balancing means bringing other weapons into the line with some that were considered powerful.

so - you won t loose anything... you might just face equal equipment on the opposite side

edit: as for the kraken 2 - we re all fed up with them, so we nerft those exclusivly to justice mk1 stats =P

well - the problem is that a lot of players do not share that opinion too much. or why do we see a lot more red catamarans out there than there are blood dragons, more blood dragon VHF with krakens than with daitos - etc.

if a faction has poor equipment, players go a long way to justify their need for equipment. - how often have we heard that phrase that "a bomber is only a bomber when it has got a supernova" - funny you might say, - considering there s the free-for-all razor.

balance is overrated? - then we can start getting rid of making some factionized gear free for all. i wish to see all the outcast side stick to guns and infernos on their bombers - while the corsair side uses supernovas and novas.

the houses being stuck to - well, razors. - thats pure RP. - no one ... and i m pretty sure NO ONE wants it that way - and suddenly, everyone is asking for factionized supernovas... .

extreme examples much? - so, where do we start saying its balance and where to we start saying its RP.

so - who of the non allies of the order is willing to volunarily give up the right to use a supernova / armour type 8 - in favour of roleplay to respect the superiority of the order in technological means. - no one? - so thats balance to us.

well their shouldnt be, yes its a bugged ship, that is oorp. as for the supernova, i see what you mean with that, what i meant is, yes balance is needed, but not everything should be balanced, there is a fine line.
Some weapons like the supernova may of been designed by the likes of the order, but its sold by the zoners, which means almost everyone can get them.

You probably are thinking, but you use a red cat so you dont care, well trust me when i say, i cant wait for the gc bomber so i can use that, which you designed, it looks great.
The worst thing i have seen though, is Blood Dragons using Nomad Weapons, in my opinion, thats not right.

This is a rather interesting statement to me... As it promotes the use of Non-standard weapons by selling location rather than RP. Supernovas are are sold on a Zoner Base, so they're free to everyone even the enemies of their allies.

Wait, Order MK2 Battleship Guns, in addition to Corsair, Outcast, Bretonian and other Order guns are sold at several Zoner Bases too... That means BHG and House Factions along with any other pirate faction can use them, right?


Personally im all for faction specific supernovas, as long as they're varied in stats.
ex
higher refire, but lower damage output
lower refire, but higher damage output
higher projectile speed, lower refire /or damage
lower projectile speed, higher refire /or damage

As for comments such as "How could other factions develop a weapon based on the Order's Supernova, if inRP the Order wouldnt allow others to use it?" Well.... Simple answer, progression of technology. Contrary to certain beliefs RP needs to be dynamic. Factions that currently dont have bombers or capital ships, in certain situations will find that they need a ship of equal power and begin developing them, and its the same for weapons.

I'm not asking that all the level 10 weapons be the same, never, its just as Raisu says, technology advances.

All Houses must have a large defense budget in order to upgrade or develop new weapons. Thinking logically, there would be advancements. Factions must have a decent sum of money from their plundering, or other activities. Or theft of technological blueprints...

The level 10 weapons could just be upgraded level 9's, or 'degraded' CODENAMES, since mass producing the current ones would be pretty expensive... So toning them down would make sense to me.
