RE: Nomad Speech. - Lythrilux - 02-28-2016

If the indie nomad ID was actually worthwhile to use and not a creative and restrictive prison (and dare I say a measure to always ensure K'Hara's dominance over the NPC faction - no flame intended here, just a perspective I have), I'm sure we'd see upstart Nomad factions that would tap into the other side of Nomad RP or offer other avenues for players who don't seek the gameplay that K'Hara offers.

Nomads are supposed to be guardians, killing machines, programmed to defend Sirius Sector. They are now telling stories and bore you to death with riddles and maybe after that they'll attack. I voted for the last option. Nomads should be scary and attack you when they're least expected.

and then the nomad id gets nerfed because people want them to rp and not instakill
I think we have a paradox here

Insta? I didn't mention anything about that Smile They should just appear and scare us by uncloaking in front of us and then shoot us.

Isn't this kind of what Alley meant with "instakill"?

Sorry but I won't bother with even more explanations. Try to think out of the box. Also, considering that players who voted tend to love the gibberish the nomads chat till you fall asleep, nothing will change. Enjoy the nomad RP ***last post****good****night***

RE: Nomad Speech. - Nosferath - 02-28-2016

You flatter me with your words Huggie. I've seen pretty good speech from people who have just joined us (like Foxglove), and I remember even better speech from Keepers, during the old days...

When all the Mirrorshare stuff happened, I saw this as an opportunity to diversify our roleplay. It was no longer "we want", "we see", "we kill", but also a new component emerged, "me". The 'self' even struggled when some decisions of the Mirrorshare weren't according to its own, as in "why do I have to kill them?", "this human isn't that bad, can I keep it?".

Personally, I like the poetic speech, which is misterious, and alien, and scary at the same time. Like a cold being who doesn't care about your human trivialities, has a deeper understanding on how everything fits, and has the power (and often desire) of killing you in the blink of an eye; this is sometimes coupled with some childish immaturity... a frenzied child with a gun who doesn't want you to play with his toys.
But this is not always easy to achieve. I've had lame RP encounters which didn't allow me to express myself in a way that I would be satisfied with. That's why I think that there should be more ways of nomad RP, so we can use them properly depending on the situation. Wilde RP is what first comes to my mind; nomad incubi were able to mix in society, so obviously, nothing prevents us from speaking exactly like a human (except for nomad anatomy, of course). In short, speaking like a human but with a hostile-alien mindset would be a nice way of broadening our "speech toolbelt"; this speech could be used in "daily human interactions". That would leave the "purest" form of nomad speech to things like threats, "diplomacy", and more "roleplay-heavy instances".

Edit: Heh, post #200.

RE: Nomad Speech. - Operator - 02-28-2016

Welp.. I'm not even a K'Hara' member, just a morph, who flies away and chat with people, but current... existance of Nomspeech is pretty good for me.

Yes, it's hard to learn, even to create your own nomspeech style, but with time, it's just getting automaticaly - you notice not that you're using some synonyms instead of regular words, puting them into symbols, etc.

In Nomspeech. there's no edge of practice, you can always make it better for your own sake you.

In general, i dunno, perhaps Nomspeech could be used to more... creative ways, but still, it's ok for me.

RE: Nomad Speech. - Marillion - 02-28-2016

Im a Trial Member of K'Hara too and i train that Speech thingy since some weeks now and i found out it makes Fun when u found some ways to get Creativity with it when INRP with peoples . It is something special in my Eyes when u can Comunicate with that. I hope it will not be changed in any Ways because that is a thing wich makes K'Hara and Trial NomNoms Different from the INdie ones that create mostly their charachter only to Grill People for Fun! I dont need NOnStop PvP with People. For that i can go to Connecticut!

I hope u all got what i mean and thanks for reading this. Spelling MIstakes u can keep with you and wish all a nice Rest Sunday Evening :-) .

Greets and *highfive*

Abiyamuta ;-)

RE: Nomad Speech. - Kaghuros - 02-29-2016

I've always found it more interesting to invoke a feeling rather than describe it. It seems completely bizarre to me how you would express an emotion to someone in plain language and still be unable to communicate coherently (as current K'Hara-approved Nomad speech does), and I was frustrated with the server zeitgeist until I saw someone do a completely brilliant idea. They communicate entirely in euphemisms and references, as though their Nomad character were copying advertisements and random radio chatter it had heard from Human entertainment.

It's extremely evocative and interesting to me because it hints at the understanding of Humanity that Nomads absolutely do have, but does so in a way that's alien to our understanding of language and culture (as if the listening Nomad wasn't positive about the mechanics of conversation so they simply copied learned messages that seemed to express the sentiment they wanted). It's not obtuse or mysterious, which is fantastic for listeners, but it's demonstrative of a non-Human perspective and absolutely stood out to me.
