RE: Adding Freelancer IFF'd Satellites to the Darkside of (Capital) Planets - Thunderer - 03-22-2016 Nice spots for pirates to retreat to while they are waiting for their target just in the middle of a neighbouring lane. IF the smuggler in question got FR5'ed , that means said smuggler is not competent at his job and got caught. See...people like to think that they can smuggle and make a big deal about it in system chat........a true smuggler doesn't get caught because he knows what he is doing , and the risks associated with the profession...so a good smuggler is patient...he bides his time until the opportunity presents itself , and then he goes for the sell point. This proposal is designed to circumvent the fr5 ruling , plain and simple , no matter what kind of fluff its wrapped in. the fr5 is to represent the JAIL TIME the smuggler would be facing for being caught......unless we want a death penalty....then the char would just be deleted. And as far as poor lawfuls not being able to stop a smuggler ?......shall I dive into the game mechanics and see where the speed docking aspect goes ?....hmmm ? It is almost not used whatsoever. (shrug) I have been smuggling via lanes with illegal ship for a few years. I have been caught red handed four to five times. Only one time ended in complete destruction. The other times I bribed police or was fined by lawfuls. RE: Adding Freelancer IFF'd Satellites to the Darkside of (Capital) Planets - Stefz - 03-22-2016 So you're essentially encouraging smugglers to avoid all interactions? Sure, I agree with them not using tradelanes and stuff like that, but looking at the player list and waiting for a system to be devoid of lawfuls is not the way to go about it. FR5 mechanic is bad for gameplay. Mechanics should always try to benefit multiple parties involved if possible. All the FR5 does is it shuts out a player from a House. Hell, the people filing the FR5 don't even benefit from a gameplay PoV as that's one less player in the House to contribute to activity and provide interactions. And of course, the Smuggler comes off worst of all. This suggestion does not circumvent the FR5 mechanic. It enhances it's use. Smugglers made hostile to a House will be on bounty boards, they'll have to get past NPC patrols and they have considerably less places to run and dock/hide at when there's danger. There's no need to dive into speed docking because the mechanic isn't roleplay-related or general enhances gameplay like this suggestion does. RE: Adding Freelancer IFF'd Satellites to the Darkside of (Capital) Planets - SnakThree - 03-22-2016 Lyth, the only smugglers who are getting FR5 are the ones who ignore cops whatsoever. Thus, they are not adding anything else than being ambient and silent trade ships with illegal cargo. RE: Adding Freelancer IFF'd Satellites to the Darkside of (Capital) Planets - wanderer95 - 03-22-2016 +1 this. Restrict it to Freighters only, allows for true unlawfuls and not just freelancers the abillity to smuggle. All it takes is for a dubious individual to take leadership police faction and we have the same situation of a few years ago where a certain (RFP?) leader would FR5 people for the sake of FR5ing people. Right now, things are only tranquil because the players involved have agreed to keep it as such. Mechanically though, there's a problem. This solution fixes that problem. RE: Adding Freelancer IFF'd Satellites to the Darkside of (Capital) Planets - Impyness - 03-22-2016 Freighter only is probably the best bet to stop people from using it as a staging area to raid while still making it relatively difficult to use. If needed it could also be given the pirate IFF I believe. Since this iff is presumably rephacked red to all lawfuls it would avoid interspace 5ks or the like from trying to smuggle and serve the purpose of being a primarily quasi / unlawful only sellpoint. That's a good idea. It also gives the Pirate IFF some use. |
